WE CAME: The emotions of the cheerleaders, students, and fans of all ages reached a high as nearly 7000 braved the cold for the annual renewal of the ancient rivalry. Senior players and bandsmen ran through pregame ceremonies for the last time. WE SAW: When the going got tough, the tough got going as 2nd-stringer quarterback Jeff Mamarella manned the offense due to Ted Eigner’s injury on a cheap shot early in the second quarter. WE CONQUERED: We conquered what was supposed to be the number 1 defense in the C.C. which proved to be no match for the Tornadoes as Kenny Rufener ran 70 yards for the winning touchdown, went over 1000 yards for the year, and was named the game’s MVP. The game finally came to an end, but the night was far from over as victory parties were celebrated all over town. 15
