1964 SWIRL Dover High School Dover, Ohio TODAY WE LAUNCH Today we launch into a new and exciting tomorrow. During the past six years we have planned and prepared for this big step into the unknown world. Our preparation has been varied, and we have stretched our minds and abilities through experiences, books, and people. Some of us have planned to continue our formal education; others will go into their life’s vocation, enter one of the armed services, or accept other responsibilities. However, no matter which course we follow, our education has not ended just because we have graduated. We will continue to encounter many new problems and tasks in the future, and our high school education will merely be a basis for our future decisions. The rest is up to us. WHERE SHALL WE ANCHOR ? 3 The construction of Dover High's new gymnasium Daily Times photo Dover High's new gymnasium— now. 4 The new reading lab offers all students a course to improve their reading comprehension and speed. Athletics this year were supplemented by games in the new gymnasium. Our high school library is now one of the most modern and well equipped in this area. 5 CONTENTS FACULTY pages 7- 18 SENIORS pages 19- 42 UNDERCLASSMEN pages 43- 78 ATHLETICS pages 79- 94 CLUBS 95-116 MUSIC ....pages 117-128 FEATURES 129-136 PAGE MISSING PAGE MISSING PAGE MISSING PAGE MISSING KAREN L. Much of a senior's time is spent in o librory. 3 V This is o common scene of seniors standing at their lockers before class, talking over matters of utmost importance such as cars, dates (the non-historical kind), and sometimes even homework. THIS WE WILL REMEMBER Teachers help us with our problems. Looking back to a day in 1958, when we entered Dover High for the first time as members of the class of 1964, we may remember how lost and alone we felt; but as time progressed, we mode new friends and began to build a class that has stood together in bad times os well as in good. Each year has given us some pleasant memories: the closs parties at the YMCA, the Halloween booths, the inter-closs games, the magazine drives (we come in second twice), the pop-bottle and tox-stamp collections. Rose Day, Homecoming, and, of course, our dances which included Snowflake Serenade and Spring Fling . We cannot forget sports or music either. In the seventh grade the football team was undefeated—they played two gomes, and the freshman team, with a slightly heavier schedule, was also undefeated. The band won superior ratings at state contest two years in a row. Remember how we couldn't wait to go to the Spring Formal, the Sweater Hop, or to get our class rings and senior portraits? And how could we ever forget our prom—Egyptia—and the months of work we spent on it, always in fear that some senior might find out the theme I Not every memory, however, is a hoppy one. Jack Jentes will alwoys be remembered as o friend to all. He passed away during our freshman year. Nor con we ever forget that Friday afternoon— November 22, 1963—when during the eighth period a voice, which just seemed to come from nowhere, shattered our thoughts with the news of the attempted assassination of our President, John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Before we left school that afternoon, our feors of his death had been confirmed. As we depart from the halls of Dover High, we will take much more than memories; for the knowledge and experience gained here will aways be present in our journey into the world, ond it is our hope that we con someday reach our goal and succeed in building a better world in which to live. PROM 1963 EGYPTIA On a rainy evening, May 10, 1963, the annual Junior-Senior Prom was held at Park Elementary School. A beautiful blue lake, pyramids, and several large colored murals carried out the theme. After the Prom, a junior, Paula Kneppelt, wrote the following poem in memory of that unforgettable night. Rod end Bonnie stand in the oasis and watch the water trickling from the stream. EGYPTIA Exotic memories so fair We shared that soft and misty night. Each girl looked like a princess dear Her beau dresed up in white. Prom '63 still glitters in The hearts of one ond all. For all the time and work we spent, It was a unique ball. A journey to the far off land Of Egypt, lovely, true, The sky, and desert, pillars, thrones, All shone of misty blue. The water trickled from the spring Into a pond just right. While Cleopatra on the wall Looked on with eyes so bright. We danced and dreamed the whole night long Until the sun began to rise, Then journeyed homeward full of joy, And happiness and sighs. Verse of the night locked in our hearts With Socred, golden key. A night of memories and sighs I consecrate to thee. 0 °from Rose Aylmer by Walter Savage Londor An Arabion stallion guarded the entrance. Tom ond Eorlene won't forget to take pictures.
