1950 Swirl .it Published by CLASS OF NINETEEN FIFTY DOVER HIGH SCHOOL DOVER • OHIO FOREWORD To you, the students of Dover High, this 1950 Swirl is presented. We, the staff, sincerely hope that in presenting this yearbook, we have furnished for both students and teachers, a record of those happenings which will soon be but memories of the class of 1950 and its final year at Dover High. If, in the future, when you look back upon this eventful year, this yearbook helps to enrich your recollections and adds significance to your memories, we shall feel that the 1950 Swirl has played its small part well. —Editor and Staff 2 CONTENTS Foreword _____________ Page 2 Dedication .. - Page 4 Class of '50 - Pages 6-22 Administration — Pages 23-30 Underclasses _ Pages 31-52 Clubs - ... - - Pages 53-68 The Arts - . . _ . _ Pages 69-80 Sports Pages 81-98 Features _ - - - — Pages 99-120 3 Dedication We, the Class of 1950, through five of our six years at Dover High, developed an admiration and respect for a man known to all of us as a friend and teacher. As teacher of the American Problems classes, he had impressed and inspired former senior classes. Though we knew him not so intimately, the quiet way in which he made friends of all acquaintances, his enthusiasm for teaching, and his interest in all students, endeared him to us. So it is, that we are honored to dedicate this yearbook to the memory of Mr. Ernest Helvoigt. 4 DOVER SENIORS and, departing, leave behind us footprints in the sands of time. Uhrichsville humbled 32-6. WOOSTER — What a nightmare! Dover gets highballed 57-13. 'Nuff said. MARIETTA Tigers run back opening kickoff for a touchdown, then beat us 14-7. They don't get a first-and-ten the second half. COSHOCTON — Another win. 27-20. Ruined another homecoming. They didn't get a first-and-ten first half, but it was tough. CAMBRIDGE — We hit them before they got started. We started feeling good over the 47-13 score. Wait till next week. ZANESVILLE — A heartbreaker. Blue Devils connect for 53 yards on a pass to the 3 yard line. Then comes the t. d. and extra point to win 27-21. All this in the last 55 seconds. LANCASTER — Haven't recovered from last week. This, plus best running attack in C. O. L., defeats us 27-6. NEW PHILADELPHIA — Dover gets a break and scores on two running plays and a pass in the first minute of play. Phila retaliates with 3 t. d.s in 3 plays. Final score, 27-6. R. L. Heller G. O. Furbay D. C. Campbell Asst. Coach Head Coach Asst. Coach 82 Co-Captains Vic Strimbu Center 155 lbs. 5 ft. 8 in.
