clfzool I1llStO'Ll.I After the settlement of Dofer Vullage chuldren receuved the luttle educatuon that they dud secure from theur parents However as the puo neers of the Western Reserve held educatuon un hugh esteem they were eager to provude a better means of educatuon for theur chuldren Thus a few years after the furst settler arruved un Dover a log school house was buult All the chuldren un Dover who wanted an educotuon had to walk to thus school After the populatuon of Dover uncreased when ut was found desurable to duvude Dover unto more than one school dustruct sub dustructs were created These sub dustructs were served by one room schools un whuch one teacher taught all eught grades ln these schools students dud not pass from one grade to another but from one textbook to another When a student had completed all of the requured textbooks satusfactoruly he was passed from the 8th grade ln l845 a Dover cutuzen establushed an academy to provude for ad was located where the hugh school now stands Thus academy proved popular and ut sometumes had as many as suxty pupuls at a tume however ut had to DG abandoned un l862 as ut could not compete wuth the publuc hugh school whuch had been buult a few years before ln l932 Dover abandoned the sub dustruct system and formed a centraluzed school A new hugh school was then buult and the old one was turned unto a grade school The portable was buult un l925 to supplement the hugh school whose walls were begunnung to bulge wuth uncreased attendance The last addutuon to the hugh school the present study hall and lubrary was buult un l927 Now un l948 another grade school us goung to be buult to relueve the rapud growth of thus communuty Thus the vullage of Westlake formerly known as Dover contunues to grow and the school system grows rught along wuth ut I vanced education for the young people of the community.
