'football On August 20, l947, forty-three lively boys came to Dover's first foot- ball practice. The first few days were hot and sweaty. The boys were aching and stiff, Out of those stiff and aching muscles came Dover's hard- fighting football team, a team whose record we can boast and be proud of, with 6 victories, 2 defeats, and l tie, Coach L. Duchez and assistant coach S. Fulton, after much hard work and expert coaching, put the Demons in a wellfearned third-place position in the Western Cuyahoga Division. Captain Ken Starkey made five touchdowns and Eugene Klink made six to lead the attack Al Welker who played a marvelous game at full back scored two touchdowns Altogether the Demons racked up l27 points against our opponents 78 The Demons gave up their games to Strongsville and Bay Village The league was all tied up until about the middle of the season when the De rnons reluctantly took third place Next years team will have a number of regulars back and we hope for a prosperous season This year s scores were as follows Brecksville 0 Dover 0 Independence l3 Dover l3 Elyria 0 Dover 25 Olmsted Falls 6 Dover l3 North Olmsted 0 Dover Strongsville l2 Lorain 6 North Royalton 7 Bay Village 20 Brooklyn lfi Dover 7 Dover I8 Dover l8 Dover 0 Dover 20 , l3 , X' ' I ' ' ff' ', uk if , co T ' rt
