CITIZENS' ACTION COMMITTEE A T f'- CITIZENS' ACTION COMMITTEE The Citizens' Action Committee, composed of representatives from many different organizations, has rendered great and unselfish service in fighting to secure the new Douglass High School. The Committee attracted public attention in 1951 when it fought so effectively to get the separate schools a share of the bond issue being voted upon that year in the amount of One-Million-Five-Hundred-Thousand-Dollars. In this fight, many mem- bers of the group suffered humiliation from those who were determined that the separate schools not be included in the bond issue for any amount. The greatest humiliation came from the county commissioners of that time. tl-Iappily, all of these men are now out of officel. In spite of strong opposition, the Citizens' Action Committee, aided by a petition bearing almost five thousand signatures, secured our inclusion in the bond election of 1951 in the amount of Nine-Hundred-Thousand-Dollars. The Citizens' Action Committee spearheaded the campaign again in 1953 and secured another Nine-Hundred-Thousand-Dollar bond issue for the separate schools of Oklahoma City. The faithful leaders constituting the membership of the Citizens' Action Committee and the fine organiza- tions which they represent are due the everlasting gratitude of this com- munity. They have won their spurs! Let them wear them as crusaders in a great achievement. Up to the present, the New Douglass High School has cost more than TWO MILLION FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS! The Citizens' Action Committee is a symbol of what can be done when people of goodwill work TOGETHER.
