We were divided into two sections, QA and 9B. Mr. Louis Brown and, Lk. Richard Hogart were our homeroom teachers, respectively. Joseph Baltimore was 9A class president and Gloria Nelson was the QB class president. The popularity contestants were Carolyn Hall 9A and Shirley Daye 9B. On a whole we had a very suc- cessful year. We began our sophomore year with 46 students enrolled. again we were divided into two sec- tions. Mr. Nathan Edwards and hr. Norman C. Camp were our homeroom teachers. The class presidents were, Joseph Baltimore 10A and Thomas Paige lOB. Our popularity contestants were Ellen Peterson 10A and Glady Ramey lOB. We sponsored many activ- ities to raise funds toward our Junior-Senior Prom. In our Junior year we were all joined to- gether as one class, with an errollment of 46 students. Mrs. a. B. Watkins was our homeroom teacher. Our class president was again Joseph Baltimore. Our popularity contestant was Charles Basil, who won fourth place. The big event of the year was the Junior-Senior Prom. Our theme was 'Lure of the Woodland.' It was a beautiful scene with Courtney Brooks supplying the music. The prom was one of the loveliest and most enjoyable evenings ever spent at Douglass. As time passed we began our senior year with 52 students enrolled. Our class officers were Thomas Paige, President, Ruth Smith, Secretary, and Charles Roberts, Treasurer, Mrs. A.B. Watkins again was our homeroom teacher. Our yearbook was the biggest project of the year. As Mrs. Watkins gazes into her crystal ball, she sees her senior class of '59 in their everyday lifes In 1965, Dennis Ashton became the new owner of Shfimro ck Inna Joseph Baltimore's dream came true when he re- turned in 1969 to teach history at Douglass High School. It was a happy day for Charles Basil, when he secured his job pitching for the Ihlwaukee Braves. Henry Basil started his fashion home in Paris, France. He is now very happy. John Chinn is now owner of two auto concerns, one of which is Colonial Lbtors. In 1969, Calvin Clark became the new football coach at Douglass High School. Ernest Davis is now a successful manager of Avon Products. In 1969, Carlton Hbward became the owner of The Howard Theater in Washington, D. C. George Hughes is now in pardnership with his uncle in the Hughes M Hughes Barber Shop. Robert Hughes is a music teacher at Douglass High School. It's hard to believe, but in 1969, Richard Johnson became an artist. In 1961, Charles Lansdown became the new owner of Broad Street Lbtors. William Lucas has fulfilled his prediction. He is now an accountant with Johnson a Johnson. In 1965, Joseph Owens signed a contract with the Harlem Globetrotters. In 1965, Thomas Paige signed a contrlct with the Los angles Dodgers. Herbert Randolph is the star comedian employed by Jack Benny at 575 a week. I3- Charles Robert's future was almost sealed in 1959 when he signed with the Pittsburg Iirates. Tilliam Young became a professional musican in 1965. He is now playing all over the world. Elaine Coates has fulfilled her position in The United States Uacs. In 1961, Isabell Cook won an award for her performance in WFour Stuck in the Sand.N Carolyn Hall and Mary Stewart now own their own beauty salons. Barbara Hughes is now a satisfied teacher at Carver Elementary School in Purcollville, Virginia. Frances lhllory is now the secretary for Llyod Price. In l965, Thurnell lbore received her msster's degree in foreign language. Betty Murray is now a real estate agent, sell- ing Virginia's most valuable land. Ellen Peterson and Ruth smith are both ser- geants in the United states Mac. In 1962, Mary Rogers became a successful eook and owner of Lnry's Restaurant.
