Dedication: Mr. bui Bush This year the students of the Douglass Public School System are proud to dedicate the yearbook to Mr. Bill Bush. Mr. Bush has been a teacher at Douglas for eight years and in that time has accomplished many things for the band program. He is responsible for setting up the DHS Stage Band. This band is a reflection of the number of programs and their talent in the Douglass High School Band program. Because of Mr. Bush's persistence, the Stage Band has been able to travel around the state to perform at various schools to show others that a good program can come from a small 3A school. In May, the Concert Band traveled to Kansas City to compete with bands from other states. To raise money for the trip, Mr. Bush organized many fund raisers including a slave sale, dance, and car wash. All of these activities were supported very well by the school and community. Mr. Bush, along with teaching high school band, has been going to school full time to become a counselor for the junior high. He is interested in people, their problems and helping them learn. Many people were shocked to learn Mr. Bill (a name given to him by the kids) was leaving such a successful band program. Mr. Bush is leaving the band program after eight years because he doesn't want to keep teaching and have the students or himself get bored. You have to keep progressing or things will slip away.'' Never fear, though; in a few years he'll be known as another success in a whole new aspect of teaching. As Mr. Bush leaves, the graduating class of 1986 has a unique relationship with him. This is the class that he started teaching in fifth grade. They were the only class that he taught all eight years, and they have the largest number of continuing members. Luckily the system isn't losing Mr. Bush. The band likes to think of themselves as sharing the wealth with other programs. We wish Mr. Bush all the luck in the world in his new job venture. He is a very special part of the Douglass Public Schools and even though he is a bit camera shy at times, he is still a great person. 2
