Graduation 1982 Valedictorian Mike Rausch On the evening of May 25, 1982, Douglass High School said good-bye to this year's senior class. Everyone sat quietly as the salutatorian, Pam Elswick, gave her speech to the graduating class of 1982. Pam recalled memories of the past years they had spent together and her feelings of leaving DHS were put into words with a poem she recited. Mick Rausch, the valedictorian, walked calmly to the podium as he unfolded his notes for his speech. He spoke of the graduating class as a whole. He described how much closer he thought his class was than any other class. “Whenever we had a class meeting our meetings were longer than the other classes ... Both the salutatorian and valedictorian received a large round of applause, not only for the speeches they delivered, but also for the messages they got across. Salutatorian Pam Elswick The invocation was given by Gary Bowie of the Christian Church and the Benediction was given by William Scott of the Baptist Church. The Commencement Address was given by the Executive Secretary of the Kansas State High School Activities Association, Nelson Hartman. He was introduced by the Superintendent of Douglass Schools, Marvin Sisk. High School Principal, William Parker, presented the class while James Ford gave them their diplomas. 14
