THE DOUGLASS BULLDOG 1971-1972 T h e Y 1972 was the year of the Big Move . The High School, the last of the new Douglass Public School buildings, was finished during the summer. When the students left school for summer vacation, they left the old High School behind. During the summer, the big move was from the old High School on Chestnut Street to the new building. It marked the completion of all of the new buildings. e a r O f Out Goes The Old In Comes The New! T h e B 1 g The High School was finished during the summer of 1972 and ready for classes in the fall. The Junior High School was finished in 1971 and the students moved in for the 1971-72 school term. M o V e The addition to the Leonard C. Seal Elementary School was completed in 1968. 2 Dedication Why? Because we see that people just won't do and say what they feel and you can't just tell someone to. It seems that people are only touched by death and maybe people will be touched enough to look into their lives and if just one person is touched enough to do something constructive and peaceful with their life then maybe our death was worth it. Why? because we love our fellow man enough to sacrifice our lives so that they will try to find the ecstasy in just being alive. By Craig Badiali Debbie Baloun I guess you could say she had a mind of her own. She didn't do things unless she knew how to do them. She was happy at home, school or any place she went. She liked everyone but wouldn't say much about the people who talked about her. Coming up in life was a big thrill for her. The night she was taken to the hospital she tried to fight and tried to live. Guess that's why she was liked so well. She always tried. 3 Dedication In Memory of George Stafford. The kind of man that tried to help the community. He never said anything unless he was willing to do it himself. Mr. Stafford served on the School Board for two years. We feel that this poem represents his life. George Stafford LET ME GIVE I do not know how long I'll live But while I live, Lord, let me give Some comfort to someone in need By smile or nod—kind word or deed And let me do what e're I can To ease things for my fellow man. I want naught but to do my part To lift a tired or weary heart. To change folks frowns to smiles again— Then I will not have lived in vain And I'll not care how long I'll live If I can give—give—and give. 4 School Board L TO R—Marie Bryant, Hugh Brotton, Bob Little, President, Bill Griffis, Jack Wade, Gene Gimple, Vern Mauk Administration L.W. MUSIC 1971-1972 The 1971-72, year was a very successful one for the Douglass High School Music Department. Both the Marching Band and the Concert Band had busy schedules. The Marching Band went to the Arkalalah Parade, and after a down pour we finally marched through a light rain and a large number of puddles. The Band also marched at the home football games and one away game. The Concert Band received a I division ratings at League, and State Festivals. Then the Band, after much planning, fund raising, work and donations from interested and concerned citizens and businesses, spent three days in May, at Six Flags Invitational Band Festival. The Concert Choir made their television debut in December of 71, on NBC, channel 3, KARD, The Elmer Childress Show. They performed both live and on tape. In the Spring the Concert Choir made their first annual tour of area high schools. The concerts included music from all periods, and was well received by all of the students we were priviliged to sing for. The many and varied experiences we have had this year will add to our maturity, and ability not only as students and musicians, but as citizens of our city, country, and state.
