Senior 1953 It' s bed time Raedine, Shirley Rearin' to go Charlene The Seniors of 1953 left on their trip to Colorado the Monday after the close of school. They travelled in a special bus from Winfield. The first night was spent in Pueblo, the second and third in Manitou Springs and the third fourth and fifth nights in Denver. They visited the Royal Gorge, State Penitentiary and made the Sky-line drive around Canyon City. Cave of the Winds, Seven Falls and mountain climbing used their time around Manitou and Colorado Springs. In Denver, the Museum, the U. S. Mint and picture shews were the points high points of interest. From reports made by individuals, every minute from the time of departure until their return was filled with interesting times. Mr. L Mrs. Saffell and Mrs. Mauler were wonderful as chaperons and seemed to have as much fun as did the students. Students making the trip were: Alice Hill, Thelma Hankins, Patricia Baum, Shirley Barnes, Inez and Ivy Houser, Charlene Brannen, Marcia Lutz, Margaret Brill, Larry Jones, Bill Stafford, Gary Darter, James Wilson, Wayne Seal, Bob Riney, Raedine Bell. The seniors of 195U hope to have as good a report Mrs. Saffell, Mr. Saffell Ladies of Leisure Ivy, Pat, Margaret The Junior Class honored the 1953 Seniors at a banquet held at Lydroy's Grill in Wichita, on the evening of April 2U, 1953. The dining room was decorated with artificial flowers on the trellis. The tables were decorated in the theme of April in Paris. Pipe-stem people were arranged on park benches and under miniature Eiffel towers. A large Eiffel Tower banked with roses and streamers decorated the speakers table. The nut cups were topped with a tiny paper umbrella. The dinner featured ham, potatoes, gravy, corn. Smorgasbord, coffee and tea, and ice cream. The program was interesting and varied. Claudine Davis gave the welcome and Marcia Lutz gave the response. Claudine Davis and Margie Olmstead sang, Side by Side and Whispering. Rev. Magnusson was the speaker and used for his subject Choose the Right Rut. Miss Mary Jabara gave several impersonations of literary characters. Rev. Lavendar gave the benediction. Each Senior was awarded a trophy for his special contribution to Douglass High School.
