English Department E reeled and writhed, most of us, that first day in English comp and baby language class. But four years and self- conlidence taught us the beauties and wealth hidden in the literature of every country. Freshman year we felt like Alice when she said, I think I should understand that better . . . iffI had it written down, but I can't quite follow it as you say it. Now we know the music of the spoken and the written word. The English, romance languages, German and Latin faculties have lifted our veils of ignorance and let us in on the secrets in their fields. Life in the language houses and meetings of English majors have brought deepened insight into our chosen fields.
