w- Q sf fx Some of the best general impres- sions are made by the Douglas MacArthur Student Congress! This group is made up of elected student representatives from each class. It is the primary student governing body of Douglas MacArthur High School. Its goals are to promote leadership, school spirit, and school pride. It provides beneficial activities for both the school and community. It secures good staff and student relations, which helps to PFOITIOYG educational opportunities, and primarily activities of special interest to the entire student body. Some of the past year's activities included a food drive and a coat drive to assist needy people in Saginaw Township. The Student Congress is responsible for activities planned during Spirit Week, and Spring Fever Week. They are also responsible for running the school store. Y The l983-84 school year at Douglas MacArthur brought much fun and enjoyment for students in- volved with a foreign language. The highlight of the year was the Na- tional Foreign Language Week, which took place March 5 through March 9. Each day of this week was filled with special activities such as labelling the school in four languages, tag day, performers, skits, and movies, mini-units , and dress-up day. The week climaxed with food day, decidedly the most popular day of the week. International food delights such as tacos, crepes, kuchle, and pizza were sold by the language classes throughout the day. A special feature of this day was created by the Latins. Mr. Meyer's Latin room was exclusively decorated as an Italian restaurant, complete with Italian music and waiters to give the atmosphere of old Italy. Each of the four individual lan- guage clubs participated in other activities organized by their offi- cers. All of the languages partici- pated in the annual International Dinner and the inter-clubal softball game. Overall, a good time was enjoyed by all involved with the foreign language department at Douglas MacAthur.
