Team Improves Over '83 Season Beck lst Team, White Pine Uur record of 12-15 does not tru- ly reflect the team's abilities. Basi- cally we out-hit our opponents, but made mental and physical errors, which cost us some games, com- mented Coach Sue Skulley. We improved over last year's record and with the bulk of our team re- turning next year, we should improve even more. Senior Barb Beck took top team honors as MVP and Barb made lst team White Pine as a pitcher. Freshmen Baseball Coach Bill Wilhelm has this to say about his winning team: This group of boys has outstanding poten- tial. These boys are a very spirited group and winning is in their blood from a very successful year in Freshmen athletics at DM. I am very confident this group of boys will be an excellent team which the school will be very proud of in the next few years. With further honing of their baseball skills and knowledge, and by continuing in MacArthur's strong baseball program under the direction of Coach Kaligian, the future looks very bright for this team. The highlight of the season would have to be a six game winning streak with three doubleheaders. Steve Reyes was the ace of the pitching staff finishing with a 6-3 record and receiv- ing the Most Valuable Player Award. Steve received both wins in a doubleheader against Pinconning. Terry Carpenter received the Most Valu- able Offensive Player Award as he led the team in every offensive category: hits, runs scored, runs batted in, and a batting average of .5'l9. Ieff Alfano was named the Most Valuable Defensive Player. Ieff provided very steady defense at third base and shortstop. He also provided exceptional team leadership and consistent hitting. Dana Richards received the Most Im- proved Player Award. Dana provided strong pitching, winning 3 out of his last four starts finishing with a 3-2 record. Dana also came on strong in the hitting department raising his batting average from .150 to .421. f ,, X , . ,swf-w --1, , 7 ,fp W ' .Www ' MV ww f f - nw .
