New Coaches Kick Two Wlnnlng Seasons N ew head coach Bill Hartle did a fine job with his Girls Varsity Soc- cer team. We did ve1'y well this year improving a great deal from when the season first started, com- mented coach Hartle. This year's team won 7 games out of 13. Most Improved Defensive Player was Anne Bieri, Most Improved Offen- sive Player was Karen Hain, while Most Valuable Defensive Player was Wendy Propp and the Most Valuable Offensive Player was Sara Morford. Coach Hartle is looking forward to next season only losing 4 seniors. The I.V. Team was coached by first year coach Gary Laatsch. Gary was also the Boys I.V. coach. The Girls had a outstanding season end- ing up with a record of 6 wins, 0 losses, and 4 ties. Most Improved Defensive Player Award went to Stephanie Graft, while the Most Improved Offensive Player was Ienny Bartes. The team's Most Valuable Player was Maritza Ar- rant and Lisa Lichon had the best team spirit. Another Successful Season Goes B 1st in Conference, 1ST in Regifmal 128,fBoys Tennis S ince 1968 Douglas MacArthur has won seventeen consecutive times in the White Pine Conference. They have also won six Regional Titles in the past eight years. The Boys Tennis Team had another successful season in spite of the hard competition. At the State meet in Kalamazoo the boys finished seventh. The high finishers were Kurt Hammerschmidt at num- ber two singles, Tom Basil number three singles, and the number three doubles team with a duo of Tim Royle and Mike Basil. The 1984 squad was captained by Pat lohnson and Tom Basil. Team awards: Most Valuable Player, Pat Iohnsong Most Improved Player, Mike Connolly: Coaches Award, Tom Basil: and Tom Basil made the DMHS All-Star Team. The team was under the able di- rection of coach Bob Quinn.
