Q, Douglas MacArthur's debate team had a very successful season this year. The team had three divisions: Mini-Novice, Novice, and Iunior Varsity. The team's topic focused on Nuclear Arms Sales. Some notable individuals did exceptionally well. Iuniors Paul Nielson and Mike Meyers won over 90070 of their debates. Also, Iu- nior Beth Day achieved an individual second place in all- around Mini-Novice Thumb B De- bate League. The entire Mini-Nov- ice team also took first' place all around. 109 f Debate

Social Science classes include a wide variety of choices: American history, world cultures, consumer ed., economics, government, world history, You and the Law, psychology, advanced psychology, and problems in society. Most of the courses are involved with a number of major activities throughout the year, such as field trips to the Nuclear Power Plant in Midland or to the Grey Iron , Foundry. The advanced pysch. class students work outside of school, at places such as the Millet Learning Center, Kempton Elementary School, and the Hoyt Nursing Home. Outside speakers come in throughout the year to supplement class instruction. A sampling of these would be Ellis Ivy, former Plant Manager of G.M.g a Polish immigrant, Dr. Mendelius, Director of the Polish Institute at Saginaw Valley College, or speakers from the F.B.I.
