Co-captains Shannon Lewis and Cliff Atkinson are pictured receiving the State Runner-up trophy from Mr. Hi Hendrick- son. WI TER MEANS TIME EGR FU November and December were two busy months for DI-IS,ers. The Jun- iors presented their play, A Connecti- cut Yankee in King Arthurs Court. Bringing together scenery and cos- tumes with a comic script proved successful for the class of '70 as they gave a fine performance. Football sea- son continued into December this year as the football team captured the AAA Southern Division Crown, their first since entering big school competition in 1963. The grid battles with Salpointe and Phoenix Union resulted in victory and a chance to play for the State Championship. But in that playoff, the Dawgs were de- feated by a powerful St. lVlary's team 27-14-. Otherhighlights of December were the 1968 Coronation Ball, the theme being Scarbourgh Fair, the first basketball game and of course, winter vacation! I 5 Coronation Ball royalty greet those attending in the receiving line. The affair was held in Dec- ernber. ,9 STUDENT LIFE 19

I FINAL EXAM DHS Students returned from Christ- mas vacation to face school and up- coming semester exams. Basketball season was novv in full swing vvith games every Weekend in January. The crowds yelled enthusiastically as the Bulldogs claimed many victories. Tennis began too, with a promise of a Winning season and the state's cham- pion player. Other activities also oc- cupied the mind of DHS students such as the AFS Student-Faculty Basket- ball game, which helped raise money to bring over our foreign student for next year. DHS received a new AFS student for second semester, Moham- med cTodl Tadilli from Morocco and welcomed him during his first days on campus. But in spit of all the fun and activities, January ad February was more than just a good time. Hard work and torturous hours of cram- ming for semester exams were on their Way. Only the Seniors, who in certain classes were excused, could hope to escape exams. Basketball action with the Bisbee Pumas resulted in a Douglas victory, 85-55. The Bulldogs won their yirst four season games. Wt ,f, WV, , , ..,.,,, , ., , , .,,,., .s 'f' to K as D ,... s l .J .U .....
