Football Win Hi hlights D-Da Spirit rolled to a peak in October during Homecoming Week at DHS. Completely reorganized this year, D- Day included daily activities. Each class was given a particular day to plaster the school with posters and to promote spirit in any Way possible. Monday was the Freshman Day While Tuesday the Sophomores took over. On Wednesday, the annual painting of the MDN by the Freshman boys took place under the udirectionn of the Senior HD Club members, While the Juniors had their day for raising spirit. Thursday rolled around and the Spirit rose to a climax during the day-long Freshman initiation. The parade spon- sored by Tri-Hi-Y, the pep rally in the gym Where the seniors received the pepcup, and the giant bon fire which urged victory over Palo Verde took place that night. On Friday the Week's activities were brought to a close at the Homecoming game vvhen the Bulldogs defeated the Titans, 141-7. Freshmen boys work hard under the constant supervision of the Seniors. I n spite of all the cleaning and painting of the D , everyone seemed to enjoy the work. Pete Ortega indoctrinates the Freshmen into the Senior Power philosophy during Initiation Day '68. Co-captains Shannon Lewis and Cliff Atkinson are pictured receiving the State Runner-up trophy from Mr. Hi Hendrick- son. WI TER MEANS TIME EGR FU November and December were two busy months for DI-IS,ers. The Jun- iors presented their play, A Connecti- cut Yankee in King Arthurs Court. Bringing together scenery and cos- tumes with a comic script proved successful for the class of '70 as they gave a fine performance. Football sea- son continued into December this year as the football team captured the AAA Southern Division Crown, their first since entering big school competition in 1963. The grid battles with Salpointe and Phoenix Union resulted in victory and a chance to play for the State Championship. But in that playoff, the Dawgs were de- feated by a powerful St. lVlary's team 27-14-. Otherhighlights of December were the 1968 Coronation Ball, the theme being Scarbourgh Fair, the first basketball game and of course, winter vacation! I 5 Coronation Ball royalty greet those attending in the receiving line. The affair was held in Dec- ernber. ,9 STUDENT LIFE 19
