The I985 Boys and Girls Cross Country teams have done the best to their ability as runners this year. For the boys team, Allan Stevens ran his personal best time of l6:53 for the 5k race. Also, sophomore Rip Hat- field ran his personal best time of I9.54 for the 5k race. For the girls team. sophomore Angel Vardeman ran her personal best time of D124 for the 3k racer junior Jamie Janssen ran her personal best time of l2:39, and junior Susan Whitman ran her personal best time of I3:l3. Junior Jennifer Leitner set a school record of an IL46 time for the 3k race. When the Cross Country team went to the regional cham pionship, Jennifer Leitner came in first for the entire region. and the team came in 4th over all. Jennifer came in I6th out of II3 girls with a time of lI:57. Allan came to 53rd with a time of I7:38. Doss is very proud of these fine runners. Starting in early August and practicing every afternoon after school for five days a week, we, with the help of Coach Byerly, prepared ourselves for the races and meets we would run in. Aside from a few minor injuries, the team has put forth their best effort, which has shown up in the results of our races. Although we could not enter as a team in several of the lnvitationals, we did extremely well in the meets as individuals. Each member of the team with the exception of one senior, Allan Stevens, will be back next season with what the team hopes will be the best year we've ever had!
