The l985 Boys track team began its season on March 28th with a meet at Moore High. Coach White who has been coaching for several years led the Dragons to become the Runner-up. They were able to finish Ilth in the State. The team was led by seniors Rodney Morgan Spence Shipley Clark Carroll Rod- ney Pitts Doug Sheakley Troy Denson and Walter Francis. Their experience was invalu- able in helping the individual members unite to become a truly competitive team. The many records broken both individual and team are partly a response to the element of senior leadership so important to the success of the team. Their contributions will be missed in the future. The I985 season was a record breaking season. The records broken were: The High jump Mike Bigham the Long Jump Spence Shipley, the I00 meter Eric Bagley, Todd meter. Best of all was the 400 meter relay broken by Willie Hudgins Todd Jenkins Mike Gray and Eric Bagley. The I984-85 Doss Dragonette ten- nis team consisted of one senior: LaDonna Koebel: two iuniors: Tamara Frazier, and Heidi Blessing, six sopho- mores: Jamie Barnes, Jill Wells, Kara Bowling, Terina Moser, Kelli Marcum, and Cheri Rodecap, and three freshmen: Kathy Jackson, Dee Clark, and Sarah Alvey. Four players returned to add their experience from past seasons to the determined efforts of the new mem- bers. They were LaDonna Koebel, Tamara Frazier, Heidi Blessing, and Jill Wells. ln his first year of coaching tennis at Doss, Kevin Salyer, played the dual role of boys and girls tennis coach. While giving of his time and sharing his knowledge of tennis he carefully guided the young team as they gained experience and confi- dence. A fp' With a 5-4 win-loss record for the 84-85 season the team finished fourth in their Region. According to the team their favorite match was Meade County at Doe Valley. Overlooking the fact that it was a losing day on the tennis courts the team had a winner of a time swimming in Doe Valley Lake on a windy and definitely chilly March day. Under a new leadership of Coach Edrington the girls' track team began its season on April 3rd, at a meet at Western High School. The year of coaching track at Doss was a good one for coach Edrington. Members of the track team went to the regionals, 7 went to sectionals, and 2 went to state. The two who went to state were Vonnie Pittman who placed 4th in the 400 meter, and Tonia Rice who placed 2nd in the low hurdles. Unlike the boys track, the girls track team wasn't able to break any school records, but they placed in every meet and won Ist place 4 out of 7 times. This incoming season the team will have 6 returning lettermen. The toughest meets are against Mercy, PRP, and Central. The seniors who led the track were Kim Hill, Vonnie Pittman, Donella Saunders, and , Tonia Rice. Their experience was what helped the track team to become a competi- tive team. The contribution they gave to the team was invaluable to the members of the team. Though they are gone, they will always be remembered and sorely missed. i l GIRLS TRACK TEAM Front Row Left to Right: Tamara Darden, Leanne Anderson, Lucretia Stigall, Traci Pride, Kim Hill, Vonnie Pittman, Jawanna Godsey, Coach Edrington.
