.s - By a vote of the yearbook staff, this I985 edition of the Myth is proudly dedicated to Mr. Whitaker. He has served as principal of Doss High the past four years and has helped improve our school environment in many positive ways. With his guidance and leadership, Doss has become one of the best schools in Jefferson County. A graduate of Western Kentucky University where he earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees, Mr. Whitaker is an active and involved person both in and outside school. In his spare time he enjoys baseball, the theater, and saddlebred horses. He rarely misses a sporting event and is a big help with the vocal music department. Doss people from a wide range of levels are complimentary of Stan Whitaker's performance at our school. English Department Chairman Jean Hatfield commented, This educator's ideologies are student-centered and he seeks excellence as a mainstay. Senior Becky Lee felt, Mr. Whitaker has been a positive influence in the lives of students here at Doss. Student Council President Brian Nunn stated, Without Mr. Whitaker's guidance and concern, I don't think I would have accomplished as much. Earl Magruder, Assistant Principal, viewed Stan Whitaker as an outstand- ing educator and administrator. A personal interest in the individual is shown by Senior Craig Smith's comments, Mr. Whitaker has supported and advised me on many different occasions. This guidance has enabled me to do my best as a student and as a person. ln an often difficult and always demanding position, Mr. Whitaker has led many efforts to improve our school. Among those improvements have been abolition of the smoking area, a nutritional break, the Excel program, lights for the football field, Wednesday dress-up day, attendance awards, recognition of outstanding teachers and alumni at graduation, encouraging and traveling with Doss students on many trips, the Contemporary Youth Singers, birthday observances, a labor-saving copy machine for teachers, receptions for Senior athletes, Who's Who recognition, the Academic Decathelon team, and many more. Reflecting many of these improvements has been a revitalization of school and community spirit. Frequent pep as- semblies offered students and staff a chance to together celebrate and recognize our achievements on the field and in the classroom. Stan Whitaker has meant a great deal to Doss High through giving much of himself. whether it be in terms of time, spirit, or dedicated leadership. We are proud to dedicate this yearbook to such a man. 6 Dedication

Memorie Press Memories . . .'they're always with us and the really special thing is that all of us have our own unique memories. These memories in part make us the way we are. Both the good times and the bad times are there for us to look back on. It's always more fun to focus on the good times though. Re- member the friends, the excit- ing games, and the good teach- ers? It's these moments that most of us want to keep with us. They're what helps us get through the rough times in life. When you feel depressed, think of the jokes with your friends in the hallways and the times you had with that one special friend. The laughter that had echoed down the hall returns and suddenly you don't feel quite so bad. Doss and the peo- ple involved with it provide us with a great deal of memories. Who doesn't remember his first day of school and the confusion that followed it? The sports and activities that let us par- ticipate and show our pride in Doss all remain important to us. School spirit and pride are things that separate us from many other schools. We have this extra advantage and it gives us the opportunity to do more in school than just get a basic education. 8-Opening Let me see you get downl A new addition to Doss: THE DRAGON The drill team enjoyed performing at the homecoming pep rally.
