By beating P.R.P. in double overtime, DHS wins another regional title for the The varsity Boys Basketball-team once again proved themselves a con- tender for regional honors as they continued the tradition of winning and excitement. Pre-season newspaper stories predicted a balanced sixth re- gion with Doss an experienced team led by seniors Terrance Moorman, Spence Shipley, and Maurice Jones. As the season wore on, other players emerged to provide the skill, determination, and points necessary for victory. With last year's memory of our second appearance in the State Tournament Sweet Sixteen in just four years, Coach Mudd and the team had a lofty goal. The last-minute scheduling of Sen- eca one of the nation's finest high school teams, proved too tough as Doss fell by I7 points to open the sea- son. ln the early going, the Dragons held their own, but the Redskins took an unbeatable lead in the second half. Still reeling from that opening loss, the 3rd time Dragons took it on the chin from Western 60 to 56. The Male Bulldogs proved unwitting victims in overtime as Doss finally made it to the victory column. A 6th place finish in the tal- ent-filled King of the Bluegrass tourney included two wins and two losses. The traveling Dragons then moved on to the McDonald's Classic Tournament in North Carolina where they finished 2nd in the 8 team tourney. Gathering momentum, the boys moved into the heart of the schedule and reeled off eight victories as they climbed to fifth in the entire state according to the Litkenhous ratings before losing to then-ranked 32 P.R.P. Overwhelming victories over Fairdale, North Hardin. and Bardstown Bethlehem put us back on the victory track as the squad end- ed the regular season with I8 wins and 7 losses. Having earned the right to play Beth Haven in the first game of the 23rd District, the boys won by a score of IIO to 32 and advanced to the final ag highly regarded Valley. The game peared tough, but the Dragons convincingly 92 to 8I. In 6th Region play, the Dragons took on Southern playing at Doss. second round of regional action Doss beat Shawnee 56-SI. H earned admission to the regional showdown for the second year in row, Doss won in a double ove squeaking past P.R.P. 63-62. Finishing the entire season with record of-and-, Coach Mudd Dragons once again provided with an exciting season filled great expectations, great skill. excitement, and earned the re and envy of other schools for the tradition of winning Dragon rour A part of that tradition occurred Coach Mudd's team won the 2m dredth victory of his coaching career a rare feat indeed.
