Runner-Up for West Regionals The I983-4 softball team consisted of fifteen players who earned the West Region Runner-Up spot. Seniors Shelly Towell and Debbi Schmitt led the team with experience and enthusiasm. The rest of the team was made up of four juniors, two sopho- mores, and seven freshmen. With such a great number of underclass- Soft men. the team was young and inexperienced. Additionally, Coach Leon Mudd was serving his first year as head softball coach. As the year went on, the girls im- proved, losing the regional tourna- ment by only one run as Southern beat Doss 3-2. The rainy Spring weather wreaked havoc with the schedule as about eight games had be cancelled. The team gave II best through the season which lr ed several doubleheaders.
