Dedica tion new life to Doss football games this year. Doss is now playing games in lights this season for the very Hrst time. As ,a iresult, the attendence improved and more school spirit was shown. In thepast, daytime games didn 't seem to attract many students. Until this season Doss was the only public school in the county with no lights in its football stadium. When Thomas Jefferson High School closed in 1981, the Board of Education gave the Doss Dragons the lights from the Thomas Jefferson Stadium. We give the credit to the Doss Booster Club for installing the lights in the stadium. Without the Booster Club, Doss would still be without lights. The school board sent the Dragons four sets of lights and six metal posts. Then the Doss Boosters bought two more sets of lights and installed the 65-foot tall poles. The dream was years in the making. lt was reborn with Sunny Watson who was the president of the Booster Club in 1980-81. Also Joe Dukes kept the idea alive when he became president in 1981. Through yard sales, flowers, Christmas trees being sold, and the money from the concession stands, the Doss Booster Club came up with lifteen thousand dollars for the lights installation. lt took the Booster Club three months to fully install the lights with some greatly needed help from the Pleasure Ridge Park Volunteer Fire Department. They provided their 65-foot snorkel ladder so workers could install the lights on the poles. A special thanks to: Mr. Mike Hart, an electrician, who did most of the wiringg Mr. Bud Ballinger, a shop worker, who made covers for the electrical boxesg Mr. Murrell Law, who took a weeks vacation to help paint the polesg and Mr. Joe Dukes, an engineer and surveyer, who drew plans for the height and angle of the lights.
