The Doss girls' basketball team enjoyed one of its best seasons ever. Picked in pre-season as one of the top twenty teams in the state, the girls began the season with two victories over Fern Creek 54-40 and Pleasure Ridge Park 62-51. Kathy Betz led the team in scoring with 19 points in the first game while Ann Hartlage Cwho tied in a pre-season poll as one of the best two players in the 6th regionl scored 22 points against PRP. The girls dropped a narrow 49-48 decision to Stuart and a 62-48 decision to Mercy before rebound- ing to defeat Shawnee 57-50. In these three games, Ann Hartlage poured in 18, 17, and 21 points respectively. In one of the more exciting games of the season, a very strong Butler team narrowly escaped the Doss girls 67-65. Assump- tion handed the girls another loss before they enjoyed a very impressive win over Presentation 65-41. After 2 losses to Mercy 65-42 and Western 56-52, Doss came back to defeat Angela Merici 64-59. Ann Hartlage scored 20 points while Cindy Scott fthe team's only seniorj added 16. After a narrow 60-56 loss to Sacred Heart, Doss buried Ft. Knox 69-59. F' U- W 4 The Doss girls were then selected to play in the Louisville Invitational Tournament QLITJ for the first time in four years. The girls made a fine showing of themselves by leading throughout most of the contest before hitting a dry spell and eventually dropping the decision 57-43. The score was tied 43-43 before Butler reeled off the final 14 points of the game. The girls then picked up momentum and won their next eight games in a row. The scores were 50-39 vs. Fairdale, 71-46 vs. Iroquois, 70-47 vs. PRP, 50-49 vs. Southern, 81-47 vs. Central, 70-58 vs. Thomas Jefferson, 64-55 vs. Ohio County, and 61-54 vs. Valley. At the time of this printing, the girls have two more regular season games and the district and regional tour- naments ahead of them. Leading the Doss scoring on the year were Ann Hartlage with an 18 point average and Kathy Betz with a 17 point average. Robyn Glass also averaged in double figures with 10 points per contest Kathy Betz and Ann Hartlage were very close in the rebounding battle with both girls averaging around 13.
