THE WONDERFUL WORLD CF MUSIC 1 The scenes on this page depict the daily life of Boss Jacobsen. The picture at the top left was captured during the 1959 Christmas Concert. No description seems to be necessary for it. In the center picture, Boss helps several of his glee club members through a Spring Concert specialty entitled Gigi. At the right he is pictured with his family as they gather around the piano to sing several songs Looking on is his wife Mary Jacobsen and playing the clarinet is his daughter, Janice. I DEDICATIO One of the greatest rewards of working on a yearbook is to be able to dedicate your work to those who have given their time and effort for you. Therefore, with an unending appreciation, the yearbook staff dedicates this the 1960 El Vaquero, to the two men of music at the Dos Palos High School. TO BOSS JACOBSEN: It seems as though no one can ever express the true amount of ap- preciation they may have for their fellow-man. We hope that this dedi- cation will express some of our appreciation towards you. You have ac- complished so much for the name of the school, and above all, you have inspired many students by the display of your fine character and under- standing. The Student Body and especially the Senior Class of 1960, would like to say with deep sincerity, thanks, Boss, C if Q 0 0 TO MR. GERALD PARODI To you, Mr. Parodi, the Student Body of the Dos Palos High School cannot describe with words the profound appreciation r.hat we have towards you. Through your untiring efforts and your zealous work, the Dos Palos High School Marching Band has successfully obtained recognition far be yond of what was expected. It is evident that many of your pupils have profited by your excellent knowledge in the field of music. We sincerely hope that this dedication will reveal some of our appreciation towards you The Student Body along with the Senior Class of 1960, wishes to say thank you, Mr. Parodi, for all the enjoyment you have given to us Mr. Parodi 's daily routine is shown on this page. At the top right he is seen directing his band during a rally. ln the center picture, Mr. Parodi sits with his wonderful family surrounding him, his wife, Betty, and their three children. Bobby, Ann, and Kathy. At the left he is pictured directing his marching masterpiece during the daily re- hearsal. XS DOS PALOS STUDENTS A D FACULTY The faculty and students would like to say goodbye to Mr Donald E Bourne who has served thirty eight years as a teacher and administrator Mr Bourne who is retiring this year was born in Beatrice Nebraska rn 1896 Upon moving to California he entered his Junior year at the Berkeley High School and after graduation entered the University ofCal1forn1a discharge from the army rn France so as to attend the University of Grenoble in the French Alps Hrs fifth year of college was completed at the University ofCal1forn1a In 1922 Mr Bourne accepted a positron on the teaching staff as a Coach and Vice Principal of the Williams High School After teaching in Williams for two years Mr Bourne transferred to the Dos Palos High School as the Coach and Principal where he has completed thirty six years as an educator at Dos Palos 8 At the outbreak of WWI, Mr. Bourne enlisted in the army and served 19 months overseas. We, Americans, proudly boast of our free education. The men elected to this office must be courageous, depend- able, and trustworthy. The highest standards of education, as well as many other school functions, lie in the hands of these few men. The Board of Trustees deal with all problems confronting our school. We are grateful for the careful consideration the Board gives in arriving at each decision. TO MR. BOURNE Mr. Bourne, the respected principal of Dos Palos High School, has been loved and admired by students of our school for thirty-six years. But we, the Sen- iors of 1960, feel perhaps a little closer relationship to him because as the usually crowded and noisy halls will be left forever by the members of our class, they will also be left by Mr. Bourne at the same time. Perhaps, he, like every one of us, will miss the activity-filled life of our school and the wonderful friends we have made in it. On behalf of the 2,432 graduates of Dos Palos High School who have been privileged to be under his administration, the Class of 1960 express our deepest and sincerest gratitude for the inspiration, advice, and under- standing you have untiredly meted to us, the future citizens of tomorrow. Mrs. Naoma Atkins Head Cook THE CAFETERIA STAFF Under the supervision of Mrs. Naoma Atkins, the cafeteria staff prepare very appetizing meals for the many students attending our Jr. High and Sr. High School. They start very early in the morning to prepare for our lunches. The food is supreme and we, the students, could ask for no better. These women work hard to please the students. A lot of credit should be given to the women who work in our cafeteria. CAFETERIA MAINTENANC Engaged in their daily routine, from left to right are: Mrs. Velma Hobbs, Ivirs. Beatrice Clayholt, Mrs. Mamie Ritchie, Mrs. Bernice Jennings. Bus Drivers The vast majority of the Dos Palos High students take advantage of the system pro- vided for them by the school. The bus drivers are an important part of this system. They clean the buses so that the students may ride in clean buses. They take the students back and forth from school twice a day, supply transportation to the majority of the athletic events away from school, not to mention the numerous field trips taken throughout the year. To think of what the average bus driver has to go through will make us appreciate him. Our drivers are safe and courteous to other drivers but most of all they are friendly and amazingly tolerant to us, their passengers. All in all our bus drivers are a wonderful group of people.
