Dorchester High School saw this season its best track team in over ,., .rm . . 4' f. r.,, J... Y ,M . K , :E ten years. After coming in victorious against Brighton in the opener we and again against Charlestown, Dorchester waxed cold and lost, by a small margin, to Jamaica Plain. In the Division III Meet, however, Dorchester made, in its best performance of the year, a terrific rebuif by romping against Brighton, Charlestown, and Jamaica Plain. No wonder! With such stalwart socii as Captain John King, the Division Ill 600 yard champion, Bob O'Brien, the Division III 50 yard dash champion, and Pishkin, a sophomore, the 880 yard champ, victory was inevitable! On March lst, competing against all the public high schools in Boston, Dot placed poorly in the Regimentals. It should, however, be taken into account that some of the schools had squads up to three times as large as Dot's. The best scorers were Charles Bunker, Dewey Belanger, Paul Nugent, James O'Malley, Bernie Piscapo, and Jer- mont Washington. For taking the time to coach the team, credit should be given to Mr. William Pendergast. nl... ,,,,,-,LMA-TM Albert Sinkys W . CROSS COUNTRY With such stalwarts as Gary Wilson and Leo Coughlin, D.H.S. had a season unprecedented in its cross country history. The team, which consisted of Gary Wilson, Steve Wilson, Al Sinkys, Bill Roach, Paul Nugent, Lee Coughlin and Buzz Cummings, made a fair show of their ability to cope with all the rigors of coursing across the greens of White Stadium. 'Though it placed last in the triangular opener against Latin and Tech, the Red and Black placed second in the next meet against Memorial and Charlestown. In the City Meet, Dot placed fourth with Gary Wilson coming in second out of one hundred and fifty boys. Because of the flu, the team was incomplete in competing in the Reggies. Roach, Coughlin, and Steve Wilson valiantly participated. Also most of the team was out with the ilu in the State Meet. Gary Wilson, however, despite a previous bout with the ilu, scored an unexpected triumph by being the first one to break the tape. Credit should be given to Mr. William Pendergast, the stout- hearted coach of the team, who was always a bulwark of inspiration. Albert Sinkys
