IT HAPPENED THIS WAY: The month of May brought much excitement on the distaff side. The tryouts for cheerleading were held, and those in our class who vere lucky enough to be voted in were Margaret Blaney, Claire Law- on, Dianne Kelly, Judy Barrasso, Peggy McLean, and Joni Cusenza. We left for our summer vacation pleased with the rumor that Miss Tlorence Magner was to be our Class Sponsor. 1956 - 1957 As Juniors we were not reluctant to return to school in September, 956, for we were well acquainted with the building, had many riends, and anticipated good times as upperclassmen. We came into prominence when, for the first time, our class was epresented on the staff of The Dunbar Chronicle by Margaret Mc- .ean, Janet Prout, and Mary Ann Anderberg. Also, two of the iliicers of the Student Council were from our class: Judy McPhee, fice President, and Gail Cederlund, Secretary. In November, a serious assembly was held to pay tribute to Mr. Francis L. Ford, an English teacher, who had passed away during he summer. Other assemblies were the traditional Christmas Pageant, pep-talk on Junior Achievement, and a concert presented by Mr. oseph Trongone, featuring both classical and popular music. 65 1955 - 1956 Arriving as Sophomores in '55, we were bewildered and confused with the idea of finding our way to our classes in such a large building. Perhaps as confused as we were the new faculty members. They were Miss Florence Magner, Miss Christine Lyons, Miss Sona Tahmizian, Miss Anna Cussen, Mr. Paul Carlin, and Miss Kathleen McCarthy, our school nurse. In the field of sports, the school football team, al- though not the best, did creditable work. The basket- ball team brought us a City Championship, they entered the Tech Tourney, where they competed very well, but were eliminated in the first game. The hockey team, with the help of their new coach, Mr. John Best, came through very well in the inter-school meets. Another City Champ for Dot was the baseball team. The fore- cast of good things to come was shown by the splendid playing of Charlie Bunker, Bob Foley, Chico Gotauco, and Paul Costello. In February, we had a chance to show our ability by participating in the Talent Show held to raise money for scholarships for the graduating class. Many Juniors participated in the Talent Show, which was the last our music instnictor, Mr. Francis Burke, directed before his retirement. 'fFashion Fanciesv in March was a gala event, at which the modeling tech- nique showed up not only that of the girls, but also that of the boys. The athletic teams did their best during the year, as it was Mr. William f'Bill', Pendergast's last year as head coach, after serving in that position at D.H.S. for 39 years. Mr. Jerry Buckley, his assistant, became head coach. Miss Florence Magner ofiicially became our Sponsor. She instigated a class bulletin, 'fDot Dashf' to acquaint us with the doings of our class. In February we got off to a good start in class mat- ters when we put in our orders for class rings to be received in June. Early in June we held Junior Week, in which the campaigns and elections for senior oiiicers were conducted. After the excitement of slogan posting throughout the school and of speech making, those elected were Dick Dauksys, President, Herb Faulkner, Vice President, Paul Kelly, Industrial Vice President, Janet Prout, Secretary, and Claire Lawton, Treasurer. And so we ended our second year with many of our senior duties already under way.
