was doung To my surpruse I saw a full page spread advertus ung the Fabulous Amateur Curcus to be staged by the Class of I957 of D H S for the benefut of the swummung pool to be an nexed to our Alma Mater Fulled wuth enthusuasm at beung able to see my classmates, I read on to duscover that CONROY and HOLMES professuonal curcus men were coachung the productuon I rushed to the telephone to call PAT ROWAN who had been my closest fruend She was more than delughted to hear that I was able to attend thus gala affaur wuth her She had al ready planned to meet JUNE ZAHKA and JACKIE BURKE at the Boston Garden where the curcus was to take place Several hours later I was delughted to meet my fruends who I found were employed as secretarues to umportant men un the John Hancock Co We cpprocched the hckef boofh where we saw pretty as ever MARCIA McGIN NES and lovable as ever MIDGE MacDONALD sellung tuckets Near the sude show sectuon we were greeted by RICHARD REMMES Iookung most pros perous The gurls told me later that he was the executuve of the Natuonal Mutshaw Bank From a dustance we heard a loud vouce callung Come One Come All advertusung the famous Calypso Dancers Wuth great curuosuty promunent doctors and who stull luke to do dance routunes for fun A luttle farther behund a stand I saw TOM NUGENT sellung lemonade As I walked towards hum, I saw DON DEMPSEY boostung dugnufued BILL MONROE up to look unto the tank of lemonade to see uf the guuce was as good as that manufactured by hus concern Contunuung our tour of the sude shows we came to the anumal pens where DAVID CAHALANE BILL KOIVU and RONNIE ADAMS were feedung the elephants My pals were amused to see thus truo of Boston clothung salesmen tendung anumals Near by good natured FRANCIS CURRAN had the 'ob of holdung the crowd back for TOMMY BOULOS was about to walk unto the Iuons cage These tasks were quute dufferent from theur dauly 'obs as assustant managers for Jordan Harsh Co WALTER JOYCE BILL KELLEY and JOHN DONAHUE were brushung the coats of the horses soon to perform theur equestruan act whule BRUCE MCCORMACK JOHN MCLAUGHLIN, and AL CERONI were urgung theur wuves to pat the anumals at a dollar a stroke Much to our surpruse we learned that they were all graduates of Tharvard College and held promunent posutuons un the socual world as well PAT YONAKER JO HODGMAN and RUTH JOHNSON were dressung the trauned dogs for theur act In real Iufe these gurls dressed themselves every day to go to theur well paud 'obs un the Gas Co We strolled unto the mud way to buy some refreshments and bumped unto a crowd from Benson Clothes Inc Among them I recognuzed Manager PAUL CONNOLLY hus assustants BILL COSGROVE and JOE DOOLEY head bookkeepers VIRGINIA CZUPRYNA and ROSEMARY DETOMA and head salesman SMILY JACKMAN They were rushung to encourage JOHN SINDONI who was takung the part of a sword swallower and was beung untroduced by RONNIE SMITH, a well known auc tuoneer about town Gay costumes and nouse drew us to a nearby platform where HELEN KALLIS was Ieadung SHIRLEY WALLACE, MAUREEN CURRAN BARBARA SWEENEY and NANCY FAHEY un a Hundu dance sumular to one whuch she durected un the Talent Show un I957 The gurls were now housewuves devoted to theur famulues Among theur vuewers were PAUL TONER DANNY WALSH JOHN DECHELLIS BOB FITZGERALD, MANUEL MIUNO, and DAN MOSEL all professuonally connected wuth TV A flame from the next platform caught my eye and I rushed to loun the crowd watchung the fure eater RICHARD PUGSLEY To see hus nonchalance no one would suspect he was the father of truplets whose mother watched the feat wuth fear and tremblung O hus rught was GEORGE NIAKAROS the famous tattooed man Hus tattoos had been paunted on by FRANCIS LAMONTAGNE Boston s famed artust and wunner of SI 000 pruze offered at the Art Festuval ln the crowd that assembled were RON NIE MAN SON BOB CANNATA MARVIN KINDLE JOE KILBANE and JEAN PERRY, graduates of Columbua Unuversuty and students of Van Doren Down the mudway JOHNNIE WELCH was puttung on a uugglung act He must have been practucung hus stunt for months because hus assustants BERNIE KENNEDY ALBERTA LaMARCA ANGELA KREST JACQUELINE MURPHY and CAROL DaSILVA dressed un brught red costumes, passed hoops balls wands and covers wuth great rapuduty and he never fauled once All for the cause dud I learn thus truck he saud cheerfully to the amusement ofa crowd of Chucago resudents who had flown un none other than the former DOLORES LYNCH SHIRLEY LLOYD PAT MADSEN and PEGGY SHEEHAN accom panued by the Stockyard executuves THERESA FARRELL PAUL MURPHY, and JOHN MORELLI It was tume to enter the bug tent we were seated un the front row by CHARLIE BARRASSO, usherung un a gold suut who now was the owner of the Strand Theater un Dorchester The band played the Natnonal Anthem durected by WILL DALEY and sung by RITA MacLELLAN She had receuved specual permussuon from Northeastern Aurlunes where she us stewardess, to have tume off from her concludung acts The furst was the Mexu can Chuwawas Dog Act led by FRANCIS FARMER She took the dogs unto the rungs and set them on theur stools TERRI FIENSTEIN MARIE GRAHAM LORRETTA MAHAN and SONIA KRYKLYWEC trupped un gauly and each stood besude a stool As the trauner passed them the balls they would place them on the dogs noses These gurls had graduated from Boston Cleru cal and were effucuent secretarues It was fabulous to see the dogs skull un balancung JOHN CUMMINGS and RICHARD MCKINNON came un balancung poles The gurls placed three dogs on each pole Then JOHN and RICHARD started walkung around the rung gradually workung up to a runnung pace They got a bug hand partly I suspect because they were so well known un local polutucs The furst number of the last half of the curcus was the
