BASKETBALL This year’s basketball team was one of the finest teams Dorchester has ever produced. They were unbeaten on their home court winning eight straight games, and finally finished the season with a record of sixteen wins and five defeats. Important victories such as Rib Lake, Medford, and Athens at the tournament were especially thrilling and all in all the team had a successful season. Below is the tabulation of games played by the 48-49 basketball team. The team played one night game with Colby and a night game with the Alumni. They lost both of them by a close margin. The team batting average was very high with almost everyone hitting .300 or better. So ended a successful season.

DONALD Don” SCHUMACHER: Junior Guard-very fast- good scrapper—good on defense—dead set shot—experience will prove to be a vital factor for him next year. ROGER Silent” MALCHOW: Senior Forward—dead shot from side—good re- bound--very deceptive fake—scores from any place on court—very hard to outsmart. BRYCE Hooks” HINKE: Junior Forward—good shot from corner—tough on rebounds--play- ed good ball all season—second in scoring--made eight out of nine free-throws against Marathon in tourn- ament. BILLY Wee Willy JANTCH: Junior Guard—best all around player on team--dead shot from any position --good dribbler — DAN Boone KRAMER: Senior Guard—very fast- good ball handler --played out- standing ball in championship game at the tournament. BOB Bobby” SCHUMACHER: Senior Guard—best de- fensive player— plays hardest of all his teammates --good passer- played outstanding ball against Port Edwards. 29
