Lois Y olf- - Aw Heck. ■ t SENIOR HISTORY The Senior Class of 'A2 has been one of pep, activity and leadership. A few of our Senior boys will be missed in basketball and baseball. The Senior girls have taken keen interest in basketball, volleyball, and bowling. The class was well represented in Band. Blanche Genrich and Madge Mertens represented the class in solos. Blanche Genrich and Fred Reynolds gave a cornet duet and Joyce Sebold and LaVerne Sauter gave a saxaphone duet. In the Dorchester Clarion, the class has displayed their literary efforts by preparing the school news. Blanche Genrich was editor of the Oor-Hi—Spy and was assisted by other members of the class. In Dor-Hi's carnival, a great many of our Senior drama- tists displayed their ability in the Plummer Breach of Prom- ise Case . Corliss Jensen and Madge Mertens represented the class in the popularity contest. Seniors also made a good showing in the Future Farmers of America judging contest at Madison. Our class was repre- sented by John Harris, Corliss Jensen and Fred Reynolds. The senior class was represented in dramatic declamations by Isabel Paul. During this period of history when our country, together with the rest of the world, is in distress, the Defense Stamp Club was well represented by the following seniors: Audrey Brecke, Corliss Jensen, Dolores Liepke, Valarie Paff, Isabel Paul, Adeline Stoiber and Lois Wolf. Last, but certainly not least, this wonderful history of our entire school year, the Dorhian, has been made possible by the diligent work of the Senior Class. L -sn Za • 1 JUNIOR HISTORY Yes, here is that peppy Junior class again. It is alive in interest and comes into the lime-light of the school often. In basketball it was well represented. David Schreiber Gordon Schief, and Delbert Dake were the Junior contribution to the A squad. The carnival stunt Galaxy of Stars presented in Octo- ber, was awarded first place. Popularity candidates, David Schreiber and Marjorie Lindboe, were crowned King and Queen of the school carnival. In the two-minute speech contest, the Junior participants were the Twins---Beatrice and Beverly Faulson. Beverly Paulson was the winner chosen by popular vote of the audience. There are ten Juniors in the Band this year. Those people are: Delbert Dake, George Rau, Gladys Brecke, Gordon Schief, Eugene Lindau, Betty Browe, Ardis Krause, Beverly and Beatrice Paulson, and David Schreiber. The Defense Club was newly organized this year. Nine active merrbers of the group were Juniors. Gladys Brecke, Leonard Bush, Delbert Dake, Marjorie Lindboe, Galen Paul, Beatrice and Beverly Paulson, David Schreiber and Gordon Schief composed that group. Beverly Paulson was Assistant Editor of the Dorhian this year and David Schreiber acted as Assistant Manager. George Rau and Delbert Dake gave orations this year. It has participated in various extra-curricular activities and shovm ability in several fields. e received third place in the school carnival with the stunt called Hot Air . Our popularity candidates were Jean Tronson and Allen Pudleiner. Those members of our class in the Glee Club were: Myrtle Kellner, Elaine Parsons, Betty Haberraeyer and Olivia Rueden. Myrtle Kellner, Jean Tronson, Anthony Beck, Betty Habermeyer, Olivia Rueden and Dale Sorenson participated actively in the Senior Band. Jean Tronson played a cornet duet at the tournament this year. Those who belonged to the Junior Band were Gordon Seidel and M rjorie Sailer. Our class was fairly well represented in boys basketball by Allen Pudleiner, Louis Bauernfeind, Dale Sorenson, Gordon Seidel and Neil McCarron, who were members of the B squad. Louis Bauernfeind, Gordon Seidel, Myrtle Kellner, Norman Jorgenson, Jean Tronson and Elaine Parsons were active in the Defense Stamp Club organized this year. Anthony Beck gave an oration and Norman Jorgenson gave a humorous declamation. The upper classmen initiated us properly with a harrowing evening early in the fall, We have bresthed a great deal easier since that time. At carnival time we produced WLS Barndance assisted by Miss Nelson, our class advisor. The class talent which was used, was very well received by the audience. Beverly Genrich and Norman Fenslce were the Freshman representatives in the popularity contest. They received second place. The girls of our class have shown a good deal of inter- est in music. Several of them sang in the Glee Club and drum major work was begun by Delores Heintz, June Ulrich, Marian Stetzel, and Mildred Sailer. Rodger Premeau and Verdayne Erdman acted as managers of the basketball team. Robert Krause and Donald Fierke played basketball. The ranks of the band were increased by Anita Habermeyer, Marjorie Mildebrandt, Donald Bedroske, Ethel Gossel,Norman Fenske, Earl Sailer, Mildred Sailer, Carol Fierke, Donald Fierke, and Beverly Genrich. Beverly Genrich, Rodger Premeau and Ethel Goessl were the Freshman charter members of the Defense Club which was organized this year. The Juniors held the lead all the time and in the final checkup remained the victors. A concert was held November 17th and April 9th to help obtain money for the band. Those who took solos and duets are as follows: Solos---Joyce Sebold, Madge Mertens, Blanche Genrich, and Jean Tronson, Duets---Blanche Genrich and Fred Reynolds. Gladys Brecke and Betty Habermeyer. 4 STUDENT COUNCIL h The Student Council was organized shortly after Christ- mas vacation. There are four representatives from each ( class. Officers elected by the Council are as follows: President, Corliss Jensen; Vice-President, David Schrieber, 1 Secretary, Blanche Genrich; and Treasurer, Adeline Stoiber. Other members of the Council are: Donald Genrich, Beatrice and Beverly Paulson, Marvin Tauchen, Gordon Seidel, Allen Pudleiner, Myrtle Kellner, Betty Habermeyer, Roger Premeau, Beverly Genrich, and Carol Fierke. Problems which concern the school are discussed and settled in an arbitrary manner. This wonderful addition to our school activities has taught our pupils to take re- sponsibilities upon themselves. SCHOOL CARNIVAL The annual carnival was held on October 30th and 31th. A stunt was given by each of the four classes as in the former years. The stunts and groups which gave them are as follows: Freshmen--------- WLS Barn Dance Sophomores------- Hot Air Juniors---------- Galaxy of Radio Stars Seniors----------— Great Plummer Breach of Promise Case The winners were the Juniors with their pantomine of famous radio stars. The popularity oontest created a great deal of interest and competition. Junior candidates were crowned Carnival King and Queen. King Dick Schrieber and Queen Marjorie Lindboe were attended by Beverly Genrich, Norman Fenske, Jean Tronson, Allen Pudleiner, Magdalen Mertens and Corliss Jensen. Poultry donated by the F.F.A. was raffled and prizes donated by the business men were awarded each night. A jitney dance was held each evening. ! 4 G.A.A. The Girls Athletic Association of Dorchester High School composed of high school girls, has for its main objective the promotion and support of all forms of athletics in which our school participates. The advisors are Miss Margaret Boden and Miss Elmyra Helke. Officers elected were President, Madge Mertens and Secretary-Treasurer, Joyce Sebold. To raise money for a camping trip in the spring, refresh- ments 'were sold during the carnival in the fall. A Wash- ington's birthday party was held on February 17th. DOR-HI-SPY News of the school is prepared and written each week by the members of the Dor-Hi-Spy staff. The school paper is edited only by Seniors. This has been a custom since the organization of the group in 1939. Dor-Hi-Spy is publish- ed each week in the Dorchester Clarion. This year for the first time school news was sent to the Medford Star News for publication. POSTAL SAVINGS CLUB The 1941-194-2 school year saw the formation of a new club in the school. It was an outgrowth of the tv o-minute speeches given to encourage the buying of defense stamps and bonds. Its purpose is to show loyalty and support to our country. The eight charter members are: Beverly Genrich, Norman Jorgenson, Myrtle Kellner, Isabel Paul, Beatrice Paulson, Beverly Paulson, Roger Premeau, and Adeline Stoiber. Oratory was coached by Hr. Ketterl. Declamatory readings and extemporaneous reading events were coached by Miss Goetsch. The league forensic contests were held at Westboro on March 23 and at Colby on March 25. Contests for orations and dramatic declamations were held at Westboro, and humo- rous declamations and extemporaneous reading and speaking contests were held at Colby.
