As edi- tors this year, we want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who worked so long and hard to make this book a reality. Linda Watts Margie Elmore I 'i ,,,, GLENN C. GANT Principal To the class of 1964: We are living in an age of rapidly accelerating technological change. Electronic digital computers can, in a few hours, out-perform a man's lifetime of work. Automation is replacing workers by the hundreds of thousands. lets and rockets have shrunk the earth to a small fraction of its former size and all nations have become practically next door neighbors. Peoples of the once remote and undeveloped parts of the world are clamoring for a place in the sun, Yes, times change, but people don't. The rules for living remain static, Those who live by these rules continue to be successful, perhaps not in material wealth, but more signifi- cantly in their relationships with other people. What are some of these time-tested rules? First of all, there is HONESTY. We must be honest with ourselves as well as with others. We must face our everyday problems realistically, and with confidence, and yet, realize our own limitations, Then there is LOYALTY. We should maintain a loyalty to our school, our employer, our church, our community and our country. Finally, there is HARD WORK, Our country was not made great by those who put forth just enough effort to get by. It is effort beyond the minimum demands of your teacher or your employer that turns the ac- ceptable job into an excellent one. By following these simple rules of living you can help to carry the torch of progress through the changing years ahead. Glenn C, Gant ROBERT E. C UN NINGHAM Superintendent of Walker County Schools J. The stu- dent comes as an inexperienced freshman, and four years later gra- duates as a mature senior. He helps Dora to grow, but when he graduates his contribution is completed. The faculty member, however, spends his entire career giving of himself to the school - in his knowledge, interest, and friendship. In the classroom, the teacher interprets his knowledge and expe- rience to the student. Through his guidance, he hopes to help the stu- dents grow toward the maturity each one is seeking. He also shows his interest by sup- porting Dora's teams and by direct- ing activities with enthusiasm. Because of Dora's size, he is able to offer friendship to the student, thus helping to create an atmosphere of warmth and security. lt is the faculty who have put the educational building block of Dora in place and who have made it not just a building, but an edifice of learning. The banquet began at seven thirty o'clock at the Musgrove Country Club in Jasper, Alabama. Rene Williams was master of ceremonies and many lovely songs were sung and played during the program, The Hallyhocks and girls sang appropriate songs for the garden setting which decorated the Banquet Hall. Judy Birmingham also added to the entertainment accompanied at the piano by Miss Sadie Roberts. Mr. Glenn Gant, principal of the school, gave the invocation and then a delicious steak dinner was en- joyed by all. After the meal, a toast was given the Seniors by Miss Charlotte Parker, the Queen Bee of the garden. Johnny Mack Brown gave the response, A Bouquet for the Juniors. The speaker for the Banquet was Mr. Louis D. Tyler, an instructor at Walker Junior College in Jasper. He talked on the importance of furthering education after high school. lt was a very inspiring talk which the students will long remember. After the program, Pat Camp- bell was crowned Queen of the Banquet. She had been chosen by the Junior Class in an elec- tion the day before the banquet. A Hootenanny and Dance fol- lowed the banquet. The dance music was supplied by Joe Gog- gins, Carroll Baird, and David Hall. Another year will pass before the next banquet and if it is en- joyed as much as the past one it will be a great success. - Betty Burroughs Pat Campbell BEST ALL AROUND Randy Suchey, Jean Thomason MOST' INTELLECTUAL Jerry Laughlin, Dana Brasfield MOST POPULAR Barry Lombard, Pat Campbell 7 64 MOST ATHLETIC Ronnie May, Ju dy Tuggle MOST ACCOMMODATING Skippy Stephens, Margie E lmore S - -v-vi?
