The number 5 is the magic number for the newly organized speech club, When a student acquires 5 points through work in various plays or individual events for contest, he can then become an active member. The officers for the club this year were: Harold Loy, President, Kris Langellier, Vice-President: Marsha Preisser, Secretaryg Scarlett Peerbolte, Treasurer, Barbara Arseneau, Student Council Represen- tativeg and Mrs. Daschner, Advisor. Ten persons were selected to compete in the individual events for District Contest held at Pontiac, Illinois on February 17, 1968. The students participating were: Cheryl Arseneau, Becky Bohn, Beth Boudreau, Dale Burchby, Debbie Davis, Brenda McCullough, Kris Langellier, Marsha Preisser, Becky Stuckey, and Cathy Tebo. Seven students were chosen for work in the contest play, Cry of Crows . They were: Marsha Preisser, Larry Frye, Dave Sennett, Connie Orr, Alan Nourie, Patricia Easter, and Colleen White. Other plays presented by the speech club and speech class were a Christmas play for the student body a children's theater play for the Unit and a series ofone acts for the public in the spring. Members of the speech club journeyed to Manteno for the Manteno Invitational Speech Contest. There our club received one first and three third place ribbons.

Y I ag Q 2 ' F ' 1- gem qfcdfdfzy CHAW, The Beta Club of seventeen members began its sixth year in Donovan High School. Miss Kathy McCleary sponsored the club. During a night ceremony, twenty-one new members were inducted. These new members included fourteen sophomores, three juniors, and four seniors. After the Pep Rally preceding the Homecoming game, the Beta Club served doughnuts and chocolate milk in collaboration with the D Club and Student Council. A Sadie Hawkins Dance in the spring completed the club's activities. The State Beta Convention held in Springfield provided the year's finale. Beta officers were: President, Harold Loyg Vice-President, Richard Munsong Secretary, Kris Langel- lierg Treasurer, Barb Arseneaug Reporter-Historian, Becky Bohng and Student Council, Marsha Preisser. pd 2460 Snape
