Senior Class Now we're in High School, the hands point to nineg As green little Freshmen, we wanted to shine. And with the coming of Joyce Whitson, We all learned to study like blitzen. For Homecoming Court we chose Vivian Hurlingg While Marilyn and Vickie, our majorettes, prac- ticed twirling. With the help of Bill, Gary, and Bob, We tried to do a very good job. We were fifty-two in number strong: And Mr. Schlieper helped us along. Now we're progressing, the clock stands at ten. We're nearing the time we'll be ladies and men. We lost Chris, Mike, Jessica, Darlene and Murray: But Terry came to our aid in a big hurry. In the Homecoming Court Shirley was seen Sitting in honor of our Homecoming Queen. Marilyn Arseneau and Vickie were each a major- erte. We're now learning quickly, but there's much to do yet. Mr. Schlieper again leads our forty-eight. We're hurrying now, but our pathway's not straight. Now the clock stands at eleven. Stairway to the Stars was directed toward heav- en! Louie's our president, our sponsors are twog Mrs. Daschner and Mr. Schlieper conducted us through. We were all happy when class rings arrived. Through Room and Bored we all survived. Roger, Bob, and Marilyn were our Mello-Cats: To that little combo we tip our hats. Paula and Shirley cheered for our team. Vickie and Vivian attended our Homecoming Queen. Five chosen couples helped lead our prom: Vivian and Louis, Marilyn and Dave, Vickie and Ron, And also Paula and Gary, Shirley and Tom. With money-making projects our treasury we hail, Concessions, cake walks and magazine sales. 'YS V a 1 Ns ' M' Jim Markley Hzstory The clock says twelve--we're Seniors at last, Some of us regret that eleven years are past. We began our year with a July 4th food standg Mrs. Daschner and Mr. Schlieper lent us a hand. Paula Langellier reigned as Homecoming Queeng Vivian and Vickie were in her court supreme. Marilyn Arseneau led our band as drum majorette: Her lovely appearance we won't soon forget. Throughout the year we have been very, very busy, With money-making projects which kept us in a tizzy. From cake walks to bake sales, from pens to pins, With concessions and fish fries, we've beeninspins. As our senior year draws to a close, We chose our class flower--the red rose. Our class motto was Forward ever, backward nev- er, We'l1 take its advice and push forward forever. We approach graduation with a total of forty-six. We're meeting our goal for the year of sixty-six. We receive our diplomas in colors brightg In turquoise and silver we're shining tonight. Now we've graduated but We're not finished yetg We're going to Washington, D. C. by United Air- lines jet. The Juniors are busy and as proud as can be, With their magazine sales and rings for all to see. The Betas are planning, working, and looking for fung They took a great trip down to see Turkey Run, On September twenty-first all faces were shiny, Annual pictures were taken from large to tiny. Our baseball boys are doing just fine, Defeating all others right down the line. Teacher's institute caused one day's delay, The F. H. A. bake sale did well in' their pay. 1966 School Activity Calendar AUGUST The Donovan High School bell rang again, With an enrollment of two hundred ten. New faces were added, all looking fine, For Freshmen, when totaled, revealed fifty-nine. One class thought themselves nifty and tnrifty, Sophomores came up with an even fifty. The Juniors were jollyg on fun they did thrive, They added their share of fifty-five. Then came the mighty, the ones with the drive, For forty-six Seniors had finally survived. The faculty looked the same as before, Maybe leaner and tannerg they walked through the door No new faces and names to be learned, Until in November, when Mr. Cowgill we earned. OCTOBER Seniors started preparing for graduation By already ordering their invitations. The college-bound Seniors were getting no rest They were too busy taking college entrance tests, Moaning and groaning was heard loud and strong For the six weeks had ended, it flew by like a song! With October came basketball trainingg Our basketball boys with sore muscles were straining. The Donovo staff all joined together To pick out their cover of plastic, fnot leatherj. Again the photographer came to take annual pictures, Putting together various and sundry mixtures. The F. H. A. girls had an October night meeting, While F, F. A, officers were trained in leading, All Seniors again were planning for spring. Their Senior class trip! Their last big fling! Again the Juniors were very busy Practicing their play till all were dizzy. NOVEMBER In their play Mumbo Jumbo , the Juniors did their bestg While the Seniors were studying for their ACT tests. Our basketball boys started out really great, For beating Herscher we surely will rate. School was dismissed for Thanksgiving recess, 'Twas a time to praise God and show thankfulness, JANUARY Christmas vacation again comes to an end So back to school all students begin. New Year's resolutions were planned and fixed With all working toward a better nineteen sixty-six, No better way to start this new season Than by settling down to study and reason. The F. H. A. , their second bake sale did holdg In hopes of achieving more needed gold, Our Wildcats decided to start on a winning spree, But lost to the Rams and Coments who did not agree. And so a lull in activities is provided here All studying for semester exams which they fear, Students put aside the time on studies they had spent And looked eagerly forward to the county tournament. Although we lost the tournament and did not gain our dream, Gary Brown was chosen ninth for the All-Star team. To protect us from harmful bacteria and unsightly spots We all received our immunization shots, tc Q 'neu DECEMBER We did lose to Crescent on December third Although quite a fighting battle was heard, Many college-bound students were choosing the college right On the Eve of December sixth, County College Night. Betty Crocker tests were given--December 7 the date, Joyce Whitson, our winner, really did rate, At our Homecoming game we again met our fate, Our opponent was Sheldon, our chance a future date. Our Homecoming Dance was the best to be seen, And we crowned Paula Langellier our Homecoming Qleen. The story of Christmas was so nicely told In a Christmas Concert that our band did hold. The Juniors were working with many different lands Trying to come up with some unique Prom plans. The F. H. A. girls held their annual Tot Party Including a visit from Santa, hale and hearty, The day before Christmas vacation when all will part, We saw the movie, With a Song in My Heart . On December 27 our basketball team was sent To play in the Peotone Holiday Tournament. APRIL What? It's April Fool's Day! Time for all jokers their tricks to play, A rumor that D, H, S, students have spring fever Tends to make us work like a beaver, Report cards help remind us school isn't over yet And that back to work we'd better get. To help us choose a job that's right We all came to Career night. The D. H. S. band marches to contest To entertain the judges and do their best. M AY A spirit of hush and secrecy is in the air-- Juniors are rushing hither and thither every- where Preparing for the grandest night of the year. Junior-Senior prom time is nearly here. Awards Day on the twenty-fourth Recognizes those who their best put forth. At last the solemn strains of Pomp and Circumstance resound, Which means the Seniors will soon be Washington bound. fb. FEBRUARY The Speech department and band are hard at work Practicing for contest which around the corner lurk. F. H. A. mother and daughter dessert party takes placeg Everyone goes home with a smile upon her face, The speech department is full of glee! In the District, Donovan rated number three. So on to sectional we must move Our skills once more to prove. Anyone like fish? That's the Seniors cry, For they are sponsoring a tasty fish fry. No school the seventeenth and twenty-fifth, Institute day gives us all a lift. The fourth six-weeks period comes to an end And into the fifth one we move with a grin. MARCH Spring is spreading all over the nation, And its our last chance for immunization, The Seniors wake up with a jolt and startg Realizing from here we must soon depart. March twelfth isa mighty important dayg State solo and Ensemble contests come our way. Each student has worked hard for this event, And with our rating we hope to be content. Our athletes, coaches and cheerleaders met And were honored at the Athletic Banquet. f r. - r.
