We believe it is particularly important and basic. The Lamp of Learning is the symbol of all our work and activity here at school. The Lamp of Learning is imprinted on our commencement program. It is the Lamp the senior class president presents to the junior class president at every commencement activity, with solemn words to tencl the flame of learning and to guard and cherish this symbol of learning. Therefore, we, the staff, choose this symbol for our yearbook theme. LQ J- 1 -, 'v' th .,5 I .W ,gs .J7f-,:v.,-- , 4. ot- -. gh! vs. rmqplg ,'.-5... -23'-'.eg-A t -v. .ie-ff., ref'- -J' A-. The Greyhounds had been undefeated for two seasons, and it was sometime before the shock of the Dragon victory subsided. The Dragons, starting out with a victory over Canevin High, went into an early season tailspin and suffered three straight losses. The last half of the season saw them winning four of the five games, and climaxing a brilliant ending against Monessen. For the second straight season, the Dragons came through with a winning season. This season showed a total of five games won and five games lost. Sophomore fullback, Larry Crawford, topped team scoring honors with 50 points. End Frank Lawson was chosen on the Big Six All-Star first team and made the honor- able mention list on the WPIAL team. John Ferrara, Bill Urbanik, and Mike Rosborough made the Big Six second team list, while Jim Hallaway and Gary Gray were chosen on the Big Six honorable mention list. Head Coach Russell, assisted by Coach Andabaker and'Coach Pykosh, brought their charges through a grueling schedule of ten games, which saw Charleroi winning the Big Six Conference by virtue of the Dragon upset victory over undefeated Monessen. The Dragons also played Rostraver and went down under a close 7-0 score, to discover at season's end, that Rostraver enjoyed an undefeated season. Fred Muniz held individual high scoring honors for the Dragons with a point total of 329. Fred's brother, Dave, was second high for the Dragon varsity with 231. Fred, a senior, and Dave, a iunior, had a fine brother act going to add luster to the Dragon basketball fortunes. The season, starting in 1962, began with a loud bang as the Dragon courtmen bounced along winning most of their games in the first half. The second half wasn't as well played as to victories, but the excitement was iust as keen, and the basketeers maintained a high average in Section Five play, ending in a tie for fourth place with two other teams in the section. The final game was played at Donora against arch rival Mononga- hela, and the Dragons won, 73-66 to send the Donora students home feeling happy.
