A sailor is the navigator on the sea of life. Each day he must decide whether to sail the charted course or the un- charted seas. When he joins together with other sailors, each sailing his own course toward a common destiny, we have a better blended society. At Donoho we find a wide variety of such seafarers: our eager extroverts, our bashful, shy introverts, our competing athletes, our sensitive artists, and our probing intellectuals. The mixing of these different voyagers gives Donoho its unique identity. Victories The annual field day held in May gave everybody a chance to win. First on the field, the athletes displayed their ability in tug-o-war, the fifty yard dash, and many other events. The winners were rewarded with a fantastic prize - a sucker. After the games it was on to the gym for home cooking. Two tables were filled with everything from chicken to chocolate brownies. Everyone ate and ate and ate . . . Then students and parents ventured to the cafetorium for the underclassmen awards. Now was the time for the scholars to be victorious. Farley Thompson and Stephen Propst receiv- ed the Most Outstanding Iunior Girl and Boy Awards. After the awards lucky tickets were drawn when the Boosters' Club raffled prizes. The day was over - but what a day it had been. if fp., A I ,gfsiqw Aa-xx , M W' ,, A M , V W ,L K V ,f ,ww -, K 4 be nit 4 V 'ia Q , ,ang 'iz ' f laik: .4 . A .few ,. This year's Ole South prom was held in Leone Cole Auditorium where the luniors con- structed a life size antebellum plantation, a brick garden fountain draped in roses, and an archway covered in greenery. The entertainment was by the super rock band from Tallahasse, Florida, Eli. This fantastic band gave an outstanding show complete with special effects and Cookie, the dyamnic lead vocalist. All the door-to-door light-bulb sales the Iuniors made paid off. The Class of '82 was able to give the Seniors the best graduation gift of all: a brilliant, ex- citing and memorable Prom. A Classic Amidst a host of students in army garb and pajamas, parades with fire engines and convoys, and a dunking booth with ready and willing teachers, the true spirit of the Donoho campus came alive during Homecoming '81. The week really started rolling Thursday night with the annual skit night and bonfire. Those lovable pedagogues gave the most hilarious skit of the evening and the cheerleaders boosted the football team for Friday night's game with their rip-roaring cheers around the blazing inferno. Homecoming week reached its climax Friday night with the football team's victory over Spring Carden, the crowning of Nikki Messer as Queen, and the big dance after the game. The Seventh and Eighth grades jammed down to the beat of The Soul Survivor as the upper school rocked and rolled to the sounds of Kicks-106. Homecoming '81 - A CLASSIC. The Class of '82 worked hard at making their senior year the best. They were lead by Presi- dent Stuart Smith, Vice-President Frances Walker, and Secretary-Treasurer Sharon Smith. The Seniors spent much of their time in their new and different lounge. Instead of just listening to music they watched television and played video games. The lounge was decorated with a yellow and maroon bulletin board and an '82 painted on the wall by our class artists. From fire engines to pajamas - they did it all. The Class of '82's senior year included some noteworthy lasts: the last wearing of the familiar ties and plaid skirtsg the last 2- day history testg the last White Plains battleg thinking for the last time about that person we had sworn never to forget. . . iflgi- wig' aunt! The Captain of the ship was our president, Mr. William H. Burt Fargason. His primary concern was keeping the ship on course. In order to do a good job, he had a fine crew to help him. Our principal, Mr. Gorey, had many duties which ranged from administration to education of the Upper School. Mean- while Mrs. Louise Marbut served as principal of the Middle School, and Mr. Borchard served as principal of the Lower School. Mrs. Sally Barnes and Mrs. Kay Parker, our financial secretary, handled correspondence and finance of the ship. Mrs. Mary lane Smith, our librarian, provided a wide selec- tion of reference materials, magazines, and audio-visual materials for our crew. There were many teachers to educate the crew, and to make sure they stayed in line. George, Arthur, and Roger Cheatham, our custodians, rendered their services by keeping the deck and cabins cleaned. The team won three of their last ten games. Their first big win was the Homecoming game against Spring Garden. It was a wonderful start for their winn- ing streak. ASD was also a vic- tim of the power of the mighty Falcons. This year was a crucial one in the White Plains game. If White Plains had won this would have been their third consecutive year to have beaten the Falcons, and the Wildcats would have gained lifetime possession of the famous Gold Football. Fortnately, the spirit of the Donoho School was high and the large crowd at the game helped to pull the powerful Falcon team to a victory over the Wildcats. The despair of the losing season was rushed aside and Senior. Falcon's last year proved to one that they could truly be proud of. The Falcon team was lead by Quarterback Mike Sexton, Captains Stuart Smith and lim Finley, and Coach Cliff Grubbs. ' ' iw Cheerleaders Boost School Spirit This year the Varsity Cheerleaders were led by Winter McKay, head and Marcie King, co-head. They began their practice as soon as school was out and at- tended a one-day clinic at Wellborn. The cheerleaders decorated the halls with spirit and signs, made colorful pep tags for the student body, and created numerous skits and routines for pep rallies. They followed the Falcons wherever they went and cheered them on in order to keep the spirit high. The cheerleaders were major contributors to making the school spirit this year the best ever. .1 Clockvvise from top: Friends forever, l Winter McKay and Margaret johnson. Let's Groove tonight. Student Government - Working Together for a Great Year Student Government Association means student fun for '81 and '82, This year's SGA, led by President Stephen Propst, Vice-President Anne Hamner, Secretary-Treasurer Farley Thompson, and Sponsor Miriam Hall, planned and executed some super projects. Homecoming '81 was a blast with a dunking booth and pie toss, a hilarious skit night, a blazing bonfire, and the Friday night game and dance. Second semester brought the Spring dance, a talent show, and the announcement of the Class of the Year winner. More important than any of these activities, however, was answering the needs of the student body. National Honor Society Welcomes New Members The lights were low, the curtains were closed, and soft music was playing. This has been a common cheer during football season at Donoho for many years. The traditional t'Gold Football has been passed around since 1972. Coach Grubbs and White Plain's coach Ed Cleveland, started the tradition hoping to make the rival between the two neighboring schools more exciting. Although the Falcons had lost six games before, this season they proved how much the rival meant to them. The win over Spring Garden 140-71 the week before helped to put the Falcons into a winning spirit. The high spirits, though, of team captains Stuart Smith and lim Finley really pushed the foot- ball team, faculty, and students to cheer loudl and win the t'Gold. The boys knew that if they lost this ball game the White Plains Wildcats would have kept the trophy forever. They were positive, though, the whole time that they would continue the tradition. Another record was set this year. This game was the first in which the Falcons shut out the Wildcats. Ever one, es ecially the Senior players, were estatic. With quarterback Mille Sex- ton passin and linebackers Gray Hughes and Iim Finley breaking through Wildcats offense the Falcon's would not allow White Plains to score. This game of the season will be history as the next two following football seasons will hopefully keep the Gold home forever! 2:2-:g ,iiirg X g sm . iss...-P2215 Fw--test '- j A 1 5' ..
