On January 24, 1958, a rollicking comedy entitled, Good Gracious, Grandma was given to an appreciative audience at the high school auditorium. The Juniors sponsored the movie, The Happy Road, at the Hunt's Theater on April 7,8, and 9 as another of their money making projects. The largest Freshman Class ln the history of D H S ff X X fC ,J',1', XX 1' yucxcumumuxvcuccc Coronation of the Kung and Queen Geneda Hall and Mickey Wilson became the 1957 58 royalty of D H S when they were crowned king and queen at the annual coronation held in the armory the even1ng of November 14 Attendants to the king and queen emerged from the music room and proceeded to the stage where they awaited the arrival of the royal pair who were preceded by the herald and the crown bearer Doris Mixon and Linda Hamey As they knelt on the stage steps Elaine Featherston presldent of the student body placed the crowns on their heads and pronounced them King and Queen The queen was then presented with an arm bouquet of gold chrysanthemums tied with black and gold ribbon D H S school colors Freshman attendants Dianne Green and Danny Bacon entered first inthe procession Dianne wore a yellow net ballerina length formal her flower a large white and yellow mum tied with yellow ribbon Following the freshman attendants were Susie Hallam and Gary Yarber sophomore attendants Susie wore a lovely lime green formal Her corsagc was a huge green tinted Mum Nadlne Whiteside and Aubrey Rawlings junior attendants followed Nadine was gowned in a pale green ballerina formal adorned with a green tinted mum tied with a dark green ribbon Senior attendants were Myrna Merrelland Gary Miller Myrna wore a floor length pink formal accented by a large mum in pastel blue worn as a shoulder corsage. The queen was lovely in bouffant white net as she and the king came into view at the sound of a fanfare by the band. Preceding the coronation a variety show was presented by various members of the student body. Keith Hackworth, member of the journalism class, as master of ceremonies, ably announced the program and coronation event which each year is produced as a journalism project, under the supervision of Mrs. Hill, journalism instructor. Mr. Rhine and his art classes were responsible for the attractive setting, a throne in royal blue, white and gold.
