CLAYS Hl TORY We were a large class of freshmen assembled for our fmrst day in Donipha High Scnool on September 7 1045 In fact we were tue largest class in D H historv 910 freshmen noisy, excited and green' However we soon eot used the tricks of the upperclassmen we found out which stairs to go up and wh c to come down we finally learned which class to go to next without looking schedules We began to learn tne names of the seemingly infinite nambe s students around us Our class officers and sponsors for the year were President Bob Turner Vice-president Porter Hancock Secretary treasurer Iris Shelby Sponsors Miss Hastings Mr Sewell when the Year ended we were overjored that we had 'pulled through our first year and were no longer the youn est of the young We looked forward tO the next year with g eat confidence e returned 4n l94b with a verv ecornful attitude for the 'g een freshmen the number in our class had dwindled we made up for those dropped by an increas in class and school splrit and joyously finished the first half of our high school work Our class of icers and sponsors were President harles Burlison Vice president uene Broz Secretary treasurer- Phyllis Phillips Sponsors- Mr Sgolander, Mrs Mahoney Saddened by the death of Mr Sjolander, one of the most popular teachers ever at D H S we reg1stered as upperclassmen in 1941 We proudly took our seats in the balcony for the assembly the first day We acted very dignified as we remembered we were Juniors now We enjoyed putting on our play, 'A Date With Judy,' and couldn't take our eyes off of our fingers for weeks after we received our class rings We worked hard to mare the prom perfect, and it seemed a fitting climax to our excitinv junior year Our officers and sponsors for the year were: President- Paul Dixon Vice-president--Joan Doherty Secretary -'rover Whitwell Treasurer Everett Emmons Sponsors-Mrs Hanners and Mr Grieb As we registered on that s eltering day in 1948, we were jubilant but also sobered as we realized this was our last year For the last time we would elect officers would go through final exams would attend tne prom Our officers and sponsors were President- 'rank Wylie Vice president- Eva Lee McKenzie Secretary Marian Filler Treasurer-Glenn Slayton Sponsors-Mrs Walker and Hr Grieb Ve confidently took over the rein of the TT Club, the Don, and the Donette, though it seemed strange not to have an older and more experienced class above - The whole town went basketball mad as the best D.H.S. team in years went I0 the state tournament. The senior play, 'Don't Take My Penny,' was a great success. Then the final things were upon us - signing and passing out cards, sending announcements, sneak day, vocational guidance meetings, then baccalau- reate, and finally marching up to receive that piece of paper that meant we had Completed high school--four years tkat we'd never forget. 21 L - ' R ' . 1 - -S- . , s 1 v U .-,- -- -- , , 1 l to E -- , .i-h : at , , ' ' r of -Q Q ' ' . , a u .2 , 1. , r , W 5 L .
