eI'll0l' C565 This article was found in the New York Silver Star, May 14 1073 The worst disaster since the Chicago fire occurred here in New York yesterday The great Waldorf Astoria Hotel, owned and operated by Gerald Lorey and Junior Pierce was totally demolished and only one man Gene Harris lived to tell his tale He was one of a great host of people here for their 25th reunion They were all graduates of the Doniphen High School of Doniphan, Missouri in the year of 1948 Mr Harris who is 6 feet tall and weighs 06 pounds, miraculously escaped through an open ventilator From this fire resulted the loss of a Preat many personages I shall relate some of the facts as Mr Harris told them to me These people traveled here from near and far From the old home town of Doni phan came three successful farmers Lestal Braschler whose specialty is cows Ewing Brawley chickens and Bill Ridlen, pies Another fellow, Bill Martin who could never stand to leave Missouri, was president of a large manufactur ing company in St Louis From nearby Manhattan came the elite Wanda Lou Bell one of the few in that well known social circle Patty Howerton who has no special resting place was searching for the lost microbe The nationally fa- mous pilot, Gene NcGen1ga1 and his co-pilot Charles Smithson were also among the missing The motion picture industry has suffered with the loss of their most talented stars, Barbara Furcham gifted pianist Hetty Ann Clark opera star and Buel Hudson, the Johnny Weismuller of 1971 The world's greatest flea trainer, Lloyd Joe Fugate and his glamorous assistant, Ruth Faye Harman will be a loss to humanity The famous Novell models Wanda Jarrett, Juanita producer Bob Novell were also lost in the disaster Famous Hollywood hair stylist for the Hob Hoefer, Kermit Grace, and Tom Huson Studios, otherwise known as H G P Studios, was the lovely Ilene Meyer The world's richestpearl importer, Harold Brooks, was said to have been lost in the CataSfr0phe The Waldorf was honored with the presence of JoAnn Vesthafer the world's greatest mortician Among the missing was Herbert Dale the winner of the Mr Amerma contest of 1972 King Neptunes two stenoaraphers, Geraldine Hunt and Juanita Harris were also lost in the blaze From Lurope to New York came Petty Hawkins and Eva Jean Ponder both college professors in Russia Max Pepmiller presi dent of C I O iCountry's Imminent Oratorsl and his friend, Donald Smithson, will be greatly missed Elaine Merrell, the country's funniest comedienne, will be missed by all who have loved to laugh Two traveling salesmen Robert McMillan and Earl Borth, were in Lew York trying to sell Madam Butterfly lin gerie The loss of Leonard Walker the world's largest midget is being griev ed by many Another greet loss was Marianne Flood, a research chemist in one of the governments scientific research laboratories Featured the night of the fire on the Starlight Roof at the Waldorf was Fred Fngelken s band, with Pearl Trigg as vocalist and Lorraine QOUthV1Ch and Donald Hopkins, the famous South American danc4ng couple as the added attraction Also lost was a noted psychiatrist Emily Haddle and her asslstant Conrie Miller Marlen Smith,the hermit Wonder' of the age made the news through his daring trip swimming from his personal little island, which was caused by atomic bomb tests in 1947 Geraldine Kerrodle will be missed by many as she was the founder of the famous Kernodle Soup Corporation 'aster Woodruff the model for those eye-catching 'Delicious Dill Pickle' calendars will also be missed Marjorie Steele, the 'Boss Lady' of Steele Steel Corporation will be greatly missed, and also two of her employees Emma Lee and Wilma Murray How will the world ever survive without these famous DPFSOHP-B98 Time V111 tell Here's hoping that those who follow in their footsteps will be as gre8t O U P019 QC?
