When the Dons played Franklin, many new pieces of equipment came into use. such as water wings, small rafts, and floating tackles. The first half the Dons were overpowered by a strong Frank- lin squad, and it looked like the UT was of no use to the Dons. The second half was a better half, and the Don enthusiasts saw a better game, as the Dons instituted their single-wing for the rest of the game. With the single wing. the Dons out- scored Franklin in the second half. Richard Bohner was outstanding for the Dons from his position as single-wing fullback. The Hnal score was Franklin 26, Donelson 7. This year the vie for the trophy was practically a reverse of last year when the Dons whipped Goodlettsville. The Dons met in Goodlettsville p L - . . year. This. doubled with the badly shaken-up de- fensive line led to the 25 to 13 loss. This was probably the team's worst night as everything they tried went wrong. Ronnie Brinkley, who had all year been backing the line up quite successfully with his brilliant tackling, was outstanding even in this offensive game. The Don's finest hour came when they met An- tioch. which at that time was the only undefeated team in the NIL. The Dons were right time after time that night. The offense really showed well both on the ground and in the air. Richard Bohner, Tony Pruett. John Lansden, and Tommy Dixon played well in the Don Backtield. Led by captain Carolyn White, who was one ot' the top guards in the N.I.L., the girls made the most of their lack in height by a great deal of determination and, in most instances, out-hustled their opponent. A scrapper and a hustler all the way was Myra Leigh Huffman who did a grand job on the offensive end of the floor, Talented Carole Ann Northern filled her position superbly. Also helping these two fine forwards were Sally Sherman. Linda Colton, and Suzanne Omohundro. These line substitutes helped greatly in the Donnettes' victories. On the defensive end of the floor, aggressive and alert Sandra Douglas and Anne Crouch continuously made their opponents want to give up. Edwina Finley, a fine and hard Phyllis Sabo Bonnie Bohner 'Q' Q ,Q 'J Suzanne Omohundro Sally Sherman playing substitute. did a wonderful job of putting pressure on opposing players. The remaining players, who all par- ticipated in the action, came through very well at substi- tuting. Carolyn White, Anne Crouch, Carole Ann Northern, and Myra Leigh Huffman received the honor of being on the All-City Check List several times during the season. Anne Crouch was on the Banner All-Nashville Second Team and The Tennessean All-Nashville Third Team. Carolyn White and Myra Leigh Huffman got Honorable Mention from both teams. Top efforts of the season were wins over Hillsboro and near wins over Litton, Dupont and Goodlettsville. The team's success for the year was due to the team- work, determination, and alert thinking of all the players. The seniors were M, C. Wright, Ralph Glezives. James Crook tco-captainb, and Frank Woods and Mike Millspaugh who was captain. The team didn't have a real impressive record but to watch them was always a pleasure. With a few breaks the season could have been another story. The scoring honors were passed around with about every boy getting his chance at being top man. The job under the boards was handled by Richard Bohner and Wade Smith, also Mike and M. C. did a good job, Joe Harman and Frank Woods and Butch Duty did the work out front. At the last of the season Ralph Gleaves did a fine job of the moving the ball. The most consistent scorers were M. C. Wright and James Crook, the others had some fine nights and did u Jim McClendon Gary Gill YN F M. C. Wright Butch Duty good job of scoring, but we just couldn't get a complete team effort all the time. An example of the boys' capabili- ties was the second Goodlettsville game. Here the boys scored as a team and played as a team. Our boys scored well and led all the way and due to a few untimely fouls were robbed of their victory. That night Mike Millspaugh had 17 points and M. C. Wright had 14 points., That night also Joe Harman had 14 points. This is just one example of the teamwork. The lineup was a real good example of how the team was balanced. I couldn't ever really tell who would start for the Don's. Gary Gill, Wade Smith, and Jim McClendon all came in at some rough times to help out the team. As always the prospects for next year look good. The younger boys have gained valuable experience to help them next year. Those coming back are Joe Harman, Richard Bohner, Butch Duty, Gary Gill, Wade Smith, and Jim McClendon.
