QMr. Tomj Thompson, celebrated a gala football season and captured the class A championship. The Dons brought home with them the laurels of victory from eight of their mne attempts. r The Dons beat Franklin, Du Pont, Howard, and Cumberland in succession without being scored upon, only to be upset by the little but powerful team of Bellevue 12-0. The Dons were fast to recover from their defeat. The following week they beat the powerful team of Cohn 7-6. They took the nod from there and remained unbeaten for the remainder of the season. Although the team was not heavy, it did have experience and never-die determination. The first team will lose a number of those determined and able players by graduation. They are: Robert Lunn, Doug Kay, Dick Jenkins, Roy Red Blair, Harold Pap Fitzpatrick, Jimmy Cross, Billy Head, Eddle Pingston, Bobby Spann, Leonard Liddle, Bill Dunn, Tom Parkes, and Arthur Jones. TILLMAN, LAVENDER GIRLS' BASKETBALL The Donnettes held high hopes for the 1949-50 season although they had lost three first-string guards at graduation the previous year. The girls completed the season undefeated and went into the Third District Tournament to down each opponent successfully: therefore, rightfully claiming the title Champs, This champion- ship made them eligible for the Fifth Region Tournament and there, too, they came out vic- torious. It can truthfully be said that the Don- nettes carried more than their share of honors away from each tournament. The success of the Donnettes may be found in their superb team work and quick thinking. Speed and determination to win also played an important role plus the excellent coaching by Mr. Tom and sympathetic understanding of Mrs. Tom. The team will lose the three starting forwards at graduation. This loss will seemingly hurt the future success of the teamg but, as before, there is always someone else ready to -step in and prove that the Donnettes will win their share of honors. The Senior forwards also served as captains. They are: Barbara Tillman, Ann Lavender, and Jane Tdlman. They suffered a mid-season slump but they found their range and finished the 1949-50 'season with flying colors. In the Third District Tournament they continued to show their abilities by beating the Goodlettsville Trojans 38 to 20 5 and in the semi-finals they were defeated by Du Pont by a single point-37-36. We take great pride in observing that whether the season will be listed a successful one or not, the same higli reputation of sportsmanship was predominant at Donelsonl Every game was played strongly but clean to the final whistle. The Dons will lose three seniors-Eddie Pingstfon, Tommy Parkes, and Pap Fitzpatrick, who was the capable captain of the team: and who was also selected as a forward on the Dis- trict Tournament Team.
