SENICDR CLASS HISTORY Well here we are at last-Seniors and almost ready for graduation! Four years ago we entered D. H. S. as Freshmen, just as all students who enter high school must do. During these years we have had our ups and downs like any other class but we have tried to contribute our part to the school program. As we look fondlyback over the past years, we see in the fall of 1945 sixty-six very green freshmen ,wandering about the halls. That year we elected Billy Hooper, class President, Doug Kay, Vice-President, Marilyn Eakes, Secretary, Donald Farris, Treasurer, and Doug Highers, Sgt.-at-Arms. Nancy Dickens and jane McKinney served as cheerleaders. Our very faithful sponsors were Mrs. McBurnett and Miss Goldtrap. After an enjoyed summer we returned as sophisticated sophomores-this year under the guidance of Mrs. Profitt and Mr. Harville. We were well represented in all sports and organizations of the school. Our President was jane McKinney, Vice- President, Donald Farris, Secretary and Treasurer, Edna Grace Nunley, and Sgt.-at- Arms, Bobby Van Atta. Again two members of our class, Nancy Dickens and Estelle Bee, were on the cheering squad. Peggy Dodsen was elected Future Farmer Queen. Members of our class also presented the class play Along Came Harriet . Then' after a brief but busy vacation we entered D. H. S. for our third year. During the past two years we had decreased from sixty-six to forty-two in number. Under the leadership of Mrs. Crowe and Mr. Harvill we climbed higher in the school realm. Our class officers this year were Doug Highers, President, jane McKinney, Vice-President, Edna Grace Nunley, Secretary, Marilyn Eakes, Treasurer, and Bobby Van Atta, Sgt.-at-Arms. Our class play, Hillbilly Sue , won first place among the four presented in class competition and later in the year we successfully presented the' three act mystery, Cat O'Nine Tails . Members of our class again excelled in sports and other organizations. This year Nancy Dickens, Janie Garvin and Colleen Waddell were cheerleaders. Our junior English class under the direction of Mr. Harvill published the school paper, the Don-L . Members of our class were also on the staff which edited the school page in the Donelson Dairy. . Then we began this, our last year at good ole Donelson High. A After careful consideration for the fourth time we elected our class officers- Billy Hooper, President, Donald Farris, Vice-President, Nancy Dickens, Secretary, Doug Highers, Treasurer, and Dick Gentry, Sgt.-at-Arms. Immediately we busied ourselves with selecting class rings, invitations and, of course with publishing the annual. This year we decided to have an entirely new kind of annual-a lithographed annual. This has kept our president busy appointing various committees for this job and that. However, all has not been work. Members of our class have been active in sports, clubs, in fact in every phase of school work. jane McKinney was elected Football Queen and Joyce Ragan and Peggy Dodson attendants. We deeply appreciate the way our sponsors, Mrs. Crowe and Mrs. Bowen have worked with us this year and for making it the most enjoyable of our high school career. ' Though we have had many struggles and hardships during our journey we have gained much pleasure from our trip together through four years of high school and it is our hope that the future Senior classes will enjoy their years here as much as we have. And though our hearts are filled with joy there is yet a touch of sorrow when we think of leaving Dear Old D. H. S. Mary Lou Ferrell Orlis Turrentine
