aniofz ss isfofz In the fall of 1942 our span of life in high school began. There were forty-nine timid boys and girls who entered the portals of Donelson High School- timid, but proud. Miss johnson and Mrs. Hawkins. who respectively became Mrs. Grassmand and Mrs, McBurnett after oui' freshman year. were our sponsors. After getting acquainted with each other. we elected the following class officers: Buster Jennings, president: Frank Newman, copresident. Albert Owen and Dor- othy Hurt represented us as cheerleaders, All of these students proved capable of their jobs. and as a freshman class we won several high honors. XYhen September, 1943, rolled around, we came bouncing back to old Donelson High with all the vim. vigor, and vitality that was possible for 1943 boys and girls to possess. Yes, we had quite an exciting and prosperous year, but little did we realize that American history lurked just around the corner. Our slate of officers this year was: Vernon Allen, president: Martha Peek, vice-president: Robert Hurt, secretary-treasurer: and james Lee Burrus, sergeant at arms. Our cheerleaders were none other than Ann Love and Yernon Allen, Ah, yes, what could we expect but a prosperous year with such capable leaders and such a swell class. To our number this year we added a couple of outstanding studentsAPatsy Smith and Fred Denson-who have contributed their store to our success at Donelson High. Mrs, Grass- man and Mrs. McBurnctt were again our class spon- SOYS. The fall of 1944 brought us face to face with our junior year. Some of our original number were gone ieither answering' the call of the draft or enlisting' in the service of our country. Others-you know some always forget to study for exams-are still sopho- mores. VVith another lively addition, Betty Owen, to our family. we were really making history by this time. This year we were led by the following officers: Frank Newman, president: Clarke McClendon. vice- president: Betty Owen, secretary: jimmy Haralson. treasurer: and james Lee Burrus, sergeant at arms. Mrs. Floyd, who came to us this year from Cumber- land, and Mrs. McBurnett becaine our sponsors. XYith their help we again completed a successful year. XYQ would not forget to commend Ralph Finney, Vernon .-Xllen, Patsy Smith, Charlene judkins, and XYayne Steele for their outstanding' performance in the diama, The Bishop's Candlesticks, which won first and third places, respectively, in the school and county contests. lVe were proud to have Ralph place first on the all-star cast. lVe were also represented in sports. It all seems like a dream as I sit and reminisce over our four years in high school and try to express to you some of the important and unforgettable hap- penings during that memorable period. Needless to say, our happiest and best year leaped into view in September, 1945-that glorious senior year. VVith stout hearts and strong minds, we en- tered this year with a purpose to do whatever task lay before us earnestly, willingly, and cheerfully. This we have tried to do. lYe elected the following officers and feel that they have been exceptional leaders: Sam Love, president: Betty Owen, vice-presi- dent: Peggie Forehand, secretary: Bill Nunley, treas- urer: and Vernon Allen, sergeant at arms, This has been our busiest year, what with the annual in progress practically all year-it takes that long' to do an annual job well. Then. too, there was the senior play, The Bachelors Baby, starring Patsy Smith, Bill Nunley, Ann Love, and Lester Hardy. This was a hilarious comedy and proved to be a fa- vorite with the student body, winning hrst place in the school dramatic contest. Yes, as seniors, you really have your hands full, but never let anyone tell you it isn't fun. lt Is worth every second of the twelve years you spend in school just to know the enjoyment of the senior year. Wie appreciate very much our sponsor, Mrs. Floyd, Her guidance and leadership inspired us to attempt to be better citizens and to never turn our back, but march breast forward all the way. Her untiring efforts and her sweet, kind way have led ns to a Final victory. for which we express our sincere ap- preciation. ln behalf of the Class of 19-lo, l should like to express the sincere wish that all future classes will enjoy their years at Donelson as much as we have and that they will profit by some of the ideals we cherished. ln the years to come when we glance at our class history, may it bring' fond memories to each and every heart. Oimis Goommx, Clam flfifllfftlll.
