E l 3 ml al 555, lBEB 'll If SENIOR C ASS HISTORY SPRING IFRESHMENI As the seasons roll on III cndles succes'-lon Sprlng wlth her changeable skles sends forth her flrst shoots The soft l7K'1gl'lI grass lnd thc buds expand under the gentle lnfluence of the sun s ray s So we ln 1940 entered Donelson Hlgh School fresh lnexperlenced dlscloslng but the merest SllggCStlOl'1 of our latent talents we entered upon the hrst year s work w lth the bllss born of lgnorance Between wanderlng ll1fO the wrong classes pesterlng the teachers and haylng eraser hghts we kept the school Ill qulte an uprolr Our homc room teachers Mr Wllson and Mlss Caldwell took us III hand alld trled to reform us lf you look at us today the ama lng results of thelr efforts can be seen DLlflUg the year 97 puplls enllsted ln our class and 79 of these haxe remalned for the four years One of the outstandlllg achleyements of our freshman year was the wlnnlng of the class tournament hy our glrls About ChI1SCm8S of thls year we lost Mr Wllson to the army and acqulred Mr Charles Llggett Our class presldent was Earl Whlte and our cheerleaders were Marlon Shelton and Ruth Dabbs Thus we Went on through our freshman year and by the help of the Sophomores JUDIOTS and SCDIOIS ltS ylyld hues became more subdued and acqulred the fuller bloom of summer SUMMER CSOPHOMORESW When the llrst warm breezes blow the grow lng plants of nature take on the warmer hues of summer The flowers bloom and the skles are bluer Our work thls year was harder and the pleasures fewer alld farther between but we found greater pleasure ln the companlonshlp of our classmates Durlng the year a yery dark cloud lndeed appeared On December 8 1941 we all gathered IU the audl torlum to hear the Presldent s speech to Congress ln thls we asked that war be declared because of the unwarranted attack whlch had been made on Pearl Harbor the day before We all felt SCYIOUS but we dldn t reallze the full lmpllcatlon of that speech lc lders were Marlon Shelton and Bowllng B Boyd jr B B was also on the cast of Plnk and Patches whlch won nrst place ln the contest at Clarksxllle At Knoxyllle the play won thlrd place and he was on the all state cast The glrls agaln won the class tournament and so an example to underclassmen the eason passes on to the gorgeous autumn AUTUMN JJUNIORSJ Autumn wlth all lts hflllldlll follage and frult ushers IU the harvest So we as junlors began to reap the result of our flrst labors As autumn s yellow glow tlnges all thlngs wlth warmth so our genlal comrade shlp shed a glow oxer the toll of the year even sendlng lts rays lnto the other three classes Earl Whlte was chosen presldent of our class and Ruth Dabbs and Marlon Shelton were our cheerleaders Mr J B Thomp son and MISS Luclle Mason were our home room teachers for the year Near the end of the year howeyer we lost Mr Thompson who IS ln clylllan aylatlon We glxe the SCHIOYS a kld party and Mlss Mason and Earl Whlte were chosen the best dressed glrl and boy The glrls ushered at the baccalaureate sermon and the graduatlon thus gettlng a PYBXICW of what woul ' be expected of us as senlors The leayes scatter and fall the snows descend and all gather around the crackllng flames and so we enter mto the senlor year WINTER KSENIORSD As wlnter s cold and snow wlthout drlves all to the shelter of home and hearth so we SEUIOIS looklng ahead and dreadlng the cold and lonellness of the outslde unsheltered by our Alma Mater haye drawn close together to enjoy our last day Tom Denson Eleanor Sheld Howard Moore and Earleen MCKEUZIE haye been wlth us just thls one year but they are so essentlal to the class we often wonder how we ever managed to do wlthout them Thls year our class presldent w as Ralph Flemlng At Chrlstmas Ralph left school and entered the Army Alr Corps and Earl Whlte our ylce presldent took charge Our treasurer was BCSSIC Baldwln and our secretary Ruth Dabbs Marlon Shelton and Ruth Dabbs were agam our cheerleaders and Marlon was presldent of the Dayldson County Sportsmanshlp League Our Senlors are actlxe and athletlc Hoss Foster MHIIOH Shelton Oleta Kelley Marvene judklns and Frances Hagar were leaders on the basketball team The most athletlc boys were Bllly Martln Ralph Flem lng Charles Malone Clyde Dunlap and Earl Whlte Sterllng Pugh was golng strong on the football team when hls ankle was broken Bllly Martln was on the Tennessean s all clty football team and Ralph Flemlng was on the Banners all clty football team Our semor year has been a hard one lllkleell but now our alms and asplratlons have ln a manner been reached Today wlth stout hearts and upllfted heads we turn oar fa es toward the future ready to meet whatever It may hold for us MARFARI r LIDDLI' Class HISIOTIHH Y -,. 7, Y E 7 T ll R' 1 4 ,,,,E.qm -. ,,. . . . . , .
