PRESENTS.. To dream the impossible dream to fight the unbeatable foe to bear with unbearable sorrow to right the unrightable wrong to love pure and chaste from afar to try when your arms are too weary to reach the unreachable star this is my quest to follow that star no matter how hopeless no matter how far to fight for the right without question or pause to be Willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause And I know if I'll only be true to this glorious quest and my heart will lie peaceful and calm when I'm laid to my rest And the world will be better for this that one man, scorned and covered with scars still strove with his last ounce of courage to reach the unreachable stars. I Don Bosco Boys' Club has been founded for the same reasons that motivated Don Bosco, namely, to provide the boys of the area with a place where they can enjoy themselves in an atmosphere of Christian peace and joy. Providing recreation for the youngsters is an easy task since play comes naturally to them. The real work of the club is to infuse in the boys a sincere love for God. A firm foundation must be laid in their youth if they are to grow to a strong Christian manhood. Don Bosco Boys' Club was founded by the Salesians in August of 1969. Although the club is an independent organization, it makes use of some of the facilities of Bosco Tech. At present the club is open on Sundays. The day is started at 10:30 A.M. with the Celebration of Mass by Fr. Tom D'Amato. The boys spend the next few hours at the club's activities which include: Archery, swim- ming, arts and crafts, B-B guns, sports, etc. An important part of the day is the group meeting. The boys, grouped by age, meet with their counselors. A short religious instruction is given and the afternoon's activity is discussed. The activities range from war games between groups to a visit by the sheriff's department. All club activities are open free to the boys. The club is sustained financially by donations by local merchants and friends. It is opened to boys eight years of age and up. Its membership has grown in four short months from a nucleus of thirty boys to 130. SW M.CHQf.l -Q. On the Feast of St. john Bosco, the newly appointed Arch-Bishop of Los Angeles, His Excellency Arch Bishop Timothy Manning visited our school and awarded the Papal Award to Mrs. McLinden in appreciation for her 13 years of outstanding service in the accountants office. SEMI NAR The theme of this year's faculty seminar was student-teacher unity. It was found this could be attained by a commitment on both the part of the teachers and students to their duty. The educational methods and values were re-evaluated by the teachers themselves. Father Mike Ribotta, SDB, Professor of Education at USF was a keynote speaker on educational value and the preventive method of education. Sister Marian L. Tobriner, Ph. D., set the tone for the meeting by her informative and soul-searching remarks on the need for re-evaluation. However, several students representing the student body attended the seminar and came to realize the difficulties of teachers, at the same time presenting to the faculty the opinions and suggestions of the students for the betterment of the program. Let every feducatory . . . make himself loved. He will attain this great end if he makes it clear by his words, and still more by his deeds, that his care and solioitude are directed solely towards the spiritual and temporal welfare of his pupils. It was the first year that the 5-Year program took effect. The seniors taking this program were ushered into a new format of college credit courses and scheduling. The success of the program so far can be attributed to the entire faculty, and especially to Mr. Gibson, Fr. Caporali, Fr. Prendiville, and Mr. Renner. Without whose help and support, this new approach in education would never have gotten off the ground. During the fifth year of the 5-Year Plan, students will work for various companies partic- ipating in the cooperative education program of Bosco Tech. In the early part of the year, Fr. Giovannini of the Superior Council of the Salesian Society visited the school and stayed for a few days as a guest. Shortly after this, Brother Bracchi and the Automotive Department went to the Volkswagon plant in Culver City to see how they train personnel. An official visit was made to the school this year by Fr. Tohill, the counselor for the English-Speaking Countries of the Salesian Society. The North-South games were an uproaring success. The South was again victorious this year They were encouraged by several Drafting Seniors who buzzed the football field in a fellow student's jeep. This was only one of the lighter events of the day. Another success this year was the Fifth Annual All-Comers' Tournament sponsored by the Senior Class. The big play-off was between the Cherry-pickers and the Animal Tribe, the latter winning. Several good games were played and Steve Loz'a's Leftovers promised to be back again next year with an even better team. We were all sorry to hear that Cardinal Mclntyre resigned from his post as Archbishop of Los Angeles, but we are sure that his successor, Archbishop Timothy Manning, will carry on the important job of Pastor of his Flock. On the Feast of Saint john Bosco, the newly appointed Archbishop, Timothy Manning, visited the campus to give a Papal Decoration to Mrs. McLinden for her 13 years of hard work and devotion. After the semester break, there was the faculty seminar. Several students participated in this year's event as the theme of student-teacher unity was stressed. Students from Mech Tech manned a booth at the WESTEC Metal Show again this year. Now, let us consider the work that went into this Yearbook and thank all those who, in some way, contributed to its success C?'??D. Our first thanks must, of course, go to all the hard- working staff members who slaved away for hours so that this school could have another fantastic yearbook. Superhuman efforts were put out by: Club Editor, Steve Loza, Sports Editor, Bob Liewerg Artist, Louis Lemoineg Finance, Brian Daviesg Index Editor, Craig Hoelzelg Photographer-Editor, john Krakowskig and Literary Director, Bob Loza. And then, all those stupendous assistants: Rick Deppe, Bob Sauvageau, Steve Dorsey Csports D, Arnold Glasman, Harvey Moody Cclubsj, Andrew Bergman Cofficial chicken eaterj, Dave Herrera, and Mike McCraken fpeoplej. Of course, the Yearbook Staff again extends its sincere thanks to all the ladies in the office, especially: Mrs. Simons, Mrs. Nassar, Mrs. Gibbs, and Mrs. Bush. Our sincere thanks also goes to Dan Sprague and Tom Miller of Glenbrier Studios and to john Thomas and Bill Jacobs of the American Yearbook Company. And finally, last but not necessarily least, we thank Brother Lockwood for his sheer courage in making this Yearbook what it is and for trying to get it in on time year after year. Brother Lockwood, the Staff and I hope that this yearbook will bring you treasured memories for many years to come. Sincerely, Robert Loza Literary Director ABRAMS, P 1 AU '72-74 ACOSTA, MR.
