The Freshmen Go To Playday I've been in hectic situations, but being a freshman on Playday, well that's IT! I waved and cast a last glance after rapidly disappearing buses and realized that a Playday . . . my thrill- ing lirst . . . had passed. As I ambled toward the gym, I thought of how many rushed hours had been spent in planning. From the oldest senior to the youngest freshman Qwe're all young in spiritlj everybody gave a hand playing, arrang- ing benches, appointing committees, or perform- ing menial tasks like cleaning the luncheon area Qnaturally the angelic freshmen did the latterj! Remembering my numerous qualms and those of my softball teammates, I smiled indulgently Above: Sue-San Weir' earns a blue ribbon for Dominican. Breathtaking games, jovial practices, and noisy song rehearsals all help us grow in an always varying atmosphere and certainly keep life from becoming dull. What a relief it is to glide into a lively game of basketball, or on hot days into a pool of cool, shimmering water. How thrilling it is to switch from a lesson in history to 'cl can hardly wait for the games today, I know We'l1 win. From the very first, sports provide the incentive to help us de- velop a respect for the skills of those around us. We learn to work for a group and therefore grow to see beyond our own horizon. is Hee me new li at our silliness. At hrst base, discovering that the opposition was equally jittery, I was flooded with relief. Base running proved quite hazard- ous due to the dewy, well-watered grass. How- ever, it was also a very dehnite asset, since we often slid right into base! As the day rolled merrily on lsomeone tin- kered with the clocksj, more fun came. A group of us was deterrnined to see the horse show . . . well, we really saw it! Standing close to the fence, we heard the brisk snap of leather and the regular pacing of horse's hooves, we also re- alized that we were literally . . . and liberally covered with powder-Hne dust from head to toe: the perfect picture of eager, budding fresh- men at the end of a particularly perfect Playday.
