No monotony was there, no danger of stagnation Neither was there any encouragement for the selfish ego to remain enclosed in its cellophane walls of mediocrity Some thrilled to the quiet dignity and lofty principles of Rebecca in IVAN HOE. Others wondered at the depths of love in the sacrifice of Sidnev Carton of THE TALE OF TIVO CITIES. Iuniors were charmed by the naivete of David Copperfield, and the seniors will never forget their presentation of MACBETH. Again and again re-echo the words of Macbetlfs soliloquy Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage . . The essays of Belloc, Chesterton, and Sheen, the poetry of Kilmer, Tahb, Daly and Shakespeare revealed personal experiences of Truth and Beauty. Shielded by this very Truth, students dipped into Hction, old and new, into the grand biographies of great men and women. In composition class and in speech class, all this reading and reflecting found outward expression. The Dominican chosen as guide was St. Catherine of Siena, for by imitating her humility, her logical thinking and quiet eloquence students were convinced that they, too, could be effective apostles of truth in their own little sphere of activity. ,L
