' ' ' vl ' - ll ' , ' I ' ' ' ' H Y ' ll . . , , , , . . , . ll ll - ' 4 I As we left the banquet we saw a b1g neon s1gn flashlng ln the dxstance B O O'SMELL 81 Sons We recogmzed the name as Bob O'Sel1gradu ated w1th us 1n 59 We went to 1nxest1gate and found the store to be one of the largest super markets 1n town He probably wanted to contlnue h1S father s busmess We left for the moon the next week as lt d1dn't take long for J1m to spend h1s money and we were anx1ous to get back to see our fr1ends the moon After gomg back to earth we dec1ded that l1fe on the moon was the greatest' CLASS HISTORY As dawn broke over the hor1zon one fall morn1ng 1n l947 the exc1te ment 1n 26 hearts 1ncreased F1nally the hour rolled around and these 26 frxghtened yet excxted ch11dren mounted the front stalrs of Do1l1ver Cons School to compose the f1rst grade class of th1s year Our class that year 1ncluded Mary Lou Bart Ruth Bondhus Dor1s Bondhus James Chrlstensen Harold Cra1g W1ll1am Dahlke V1rtus Feddersen DIXIE Feddersen Edward Gr1ese Ronald Hanson Joyce Huntley Donald Knapp Dean Knapp Donald Laffey Janet L1lland Duane McMurtry JBDICG M1ller Robert O Sell Patr1ck Peterson Ehzabeth R1enhardt Vx elyn R1enhardt Norma Saunders Kathleen Smlth James Weber Jerry Westphal and Mary Lee W1cks Under the guldance and leader sh1p of M1ss Fern Carlson we became 1n1t1ated 1nto school l1fe After an all to br1ef xacatlon we returned to a new room and a new teacher M1ss Bexerly Schenk After we were all assembled we found that we had lost V1rtus Fedderson D1x1e Fedderson Don Knapp Pat Peterson Ronald Hanson Jerry Wetphal Mary Lee W1cks and Jamce M11ler Dur1ng the year Norma Saunders also moved away Th1s k1nd of shortened our ranks but we also saw three new faces those of Jerry Balmer Dona Feddersen and Joan Hanson Th1s year was just as ex c1t1ng as the f1rst and we were fast becommg pro s at th1s new game of school We were promoted and entered th1rd grade w1th new zest Dur1ng th1s year Jerry Balmer and Kathleen Sm1th moved away but new was Jerry Buchan and Betty Ann McCork1e and L1nda R1chards Also durmg the second semester Carolyn Knutson and James Metz Jolned br1ng1ng our clas back to Z1 Soon lt was vacat1on t1me agaln over wh1ch we recuperated and prepared to meet fourth grade Th1s year we were met at the door by Mrs Vera Shonkwller who led us over the oattlef1eld of books w1thout too much trouble All the old faces were present w1th one add1t1on of Irx1n Johnson Durlng the year Betty Ann McCork1e moved away Flfth grade presented us w1th a new fleld and a new teacher Mrs Agnes Stlllman We're on our way up When we returned from summer vacat1on the faces of Irun Johnson and Harold Cra1g were rn1ss1ng Jerry Balmer was w1th us but remaxned only a short t1me Joyce Koster also Jo1ned our happy class S1xth grade was a year of dec1s1on We felt we were gettlng too b1g for those younger than us and yet those glamorous Mr H1 students were too b1g for us Some how we coped w1th the problem and made lt through w1th no losses and two add1t1ons to our numbers These were Donald S1mmer and Harold Schroeder Soon lt was promot1on t1me and now belonged to the enued Jr I-I Our mstructors th1s year were Robert Reed and Mrs Ma:-une Cass We were begmmng to wonder 1f we were so lucky But between the hrs of classes we had somethlng new mter school basketball and baseball These were what we lxved for To share ln our exc1tement we also had two new members 1n our class Roger Cassem and Patr1c1a Sx enby The year passed qulckly summer vacat1on went faster and we were back 1n school as e1ghth graders ESTHERVILLE FURNITURE MART Estherx1lle lowa 14 f 1 11 vw ' - . . - 1 ' . . ' ' , 1 1 lf! f f K ,A , I ' ,f 8th grade was a wonderful year fllled wlth the glory of be1ng 1n our last year of grade school and lool-ung forward to our f1rst year 1n h1gh school Teach1ng us were Mr Larry Beckley and Mrs Maxxne Cass There was one loss ln our class Mary Lou Bart mox ed away Phe mght came for graduat1on we beamed Wlth pr1de and pleasure when we were handed our elghth grade dlplomas When we came back after vacat1on we mounted the extra fhght of sta1rs and entered a new world We found our seats Wh1le we cowered 1n our seats the xast assembly was 1n mass confuslon and we were most confused of all Fmally the buzzer rang and sllence prexa1led Mr Cass strode to the front and proceeded to stra1ghten us out Thmgs went fa1rly smooth untxl one day when one mlghty sen1or passed out beames and another la1d the law down for 1n1t1at1on week At the end they held a party for us at wh1ch we pa1d for all the m1stakes we had made Strangely enough nobody got by Thls year we learned of our class fund and started to buxld lt by serx mg at basketball games etc for our Jun 1or and semor year Our class suffered qu1te a loss when Jerry Buchan Joyce Koster Patr1c1a Sx enby and Roger Cassem dropped but Wanda Holl and Kenneth L1bby Jo1ned to help make up the loss Under the gu1d ance of Mr Hoxeland Mr Master and Mrs Butterfleld we surw1ved the year w1thout too much d1ff1culty When we entered our sophomore year we found we lost Joyce Huntley and Donald S1mmer durmg the year Thls year was a l1ttle slow We were no longer the lowly green eared freshmen but we were st1ll under classmen and thus looked down on Through th1s year we were led Mr Lucas Mr Carney Mr Masters and Mrs Butterf1eld When we last Durlng xacauon we had lost James fMetzl Bebo and Kenneth L1uby and L1nda R1chards Durlng the year we lost Ehzabeth R1enhardt Thls year there was the excltement ofthe class play prom Junlor and Sen 1or Banquet paper staff and many more exc1t1ng act1x1t1es Teachers 1n command that year were Mr Lucas Mr Rogers Mrs Stow and Mr Masters When we returned for our f1nal year we found our numbers down to fourteen These mcluded Dor1s Bondhus James Chrlstensen Dona Feddersen James Weber Joan Hanson Dean Knapp Wanda I-Ioll Duane McMurtry Ex elyn R1enhardt Don Laffey Edward Grlese Carolyn Knutson Bob O'Sell and Janet L1lland Th1s was the most exc1t1ng year of all lt lncluded an 1n1tat1on party for the freshmen at wh1ch we wel comed them to the ranks of h1gh school Also there was the class play class trlp prom banquet and annual staff Our flnal 1nstruct1on came from Mr Lucas Mr Rogers Mrs Stow Mr Weddmgfeld and Mrs Marquardt Durxng our four years our class helped f1ll out baseball and basket ball teams also band glee club and mlxed chorus We haxe always looked forward to that day we graduate but lt 1S w1th a m1xture of Joy sadness happlness and regret for we w1ll be partlng Each member w1shes the rest best w1shes and success 1n the future as each goes h1s separate way SOUTH SIDE SERVICE Estherx 11le, Iowa 15 ' ll ll ' Y ' V .' , ' ' - ' J I . . f' , . , . l 'l .
