Q ZJZZLAJMM OT long ago, I heard a father predict that his son would be more successful in life than he had been. It seems that the father had to leave school at the end of the sixth grade in order to work, while the son would certainly finish high school and might even enter college. There is a great deal in what he said, for a good education is certainly necessary in this tech- nical age. But doesn't it depend on what you mean by education ? What makes us succeed or fail in life? Strangely enough, it can be shown that relatively few of us fail in our jobs because of what we don't know, and relatively few are successful just because of what we do know. It seems that, over and above mere knowledge, there are other less tangible things that count: the abil- ity to get along with other people, the ideal of service above self, clearly defined goals, and the drive to carry our jobs to completion. I think we can assume that you who finish your high school days this year have at least a fair amount of knowledge or you wouldn't be graduating. I hope that you have also acquired your share of those other things which are less tangible, but which count for'so much in making a haPPY and successful life. Board Of Education Pres. , John P.
