Library Tracks of Tre VVheeI As the school year of 1949-50 draws to a close, we stop to look back on the things that we of Doland High School have accomplished this year. Bernard Dahlen, as our new superintendent, and Gilbert Peterson, as agriculture teach- er, joined the faculty. Agriculture I and II and Shop were added to the currlcululn. F.l .A. was organized and its activities included a basketball team, visits to various agricultural shows, and sending the president, Bob Schumacher, to the National F.F.A. Convention ln Kansas City. Fay Hajek was elected captain of the cheerleaders with Delaine Edwards and Cleo Galbreath other members of A squad and Carol Mannie, Esther Lewis, and Florence Peterson as B cheerleaders. The carnival was in charge of the newly elected Student Council. The Iunlor candidates, Lola Kleinsasser and John Drayer, were the reigning royalty. The Darling Brats , a delightful comedy, was produced by the Junior class as the first dramatic program. Len Doty, Don Levsen, Bernadine Waldner substituting for Shirley Jansen, and Pat Miller won the district Declamation Contest at Frankfort, and Len Doty and Don Levsen represented the district at the regional. Len Doty, Lola Klelnsasser, Bob Schumacher, Don Mendel, and Bernadine Waldner participated in the Midwest Speech Tour- nament held at Augustana in February and plan to enter the regional in March. Doland's basketball team played outstanding ball this year. As we are losing just two prominent Senior players, Gall Wicks and LaVerne Decker, we feel confident that next year's team will be visitors in the district tournament. Also the Doland Midgets dld a fthe job this year and won their tournament at Redfield. The band's appearance as a marching band in the annual Hobo Day Parade at Brookings last fall was but one of its many fine performances this year. Under the praiseworthy supervision of Mrs. Stormo, our library has been enlarged, re- arranged, and catalogued. The girls' physical education program under the direction of Mrs., Thurston has been a valuable addition to the advantages offered our students. ' Now as the Wheel Tracks goes to press, the band members, glee clubs, and vocalists are practicing for their spring concert and contest. The Juniors are ,beginning to nike plans for the prom, and the Seniors will be producing their play. Q ii' Z5 '
